[Help] Switched S20 FE 5G (SM-G781V) to GCF CSC, but missing key features. Planning to clean flash G781U1 XAA—any advice?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently using a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G (originally the Verizon model, SM-G781V) in Tanzania.
I recently managed to change my CSC to GCF (Global Certification Forum). While it helped bypass some of the aggressive Verizon network behavior, GCF feels more like a raw testing profile rather than a daily-driver user region.
Features I'm currently missing on GCF / VZW firmware:
Samsung Smart Call (Hiya): No native Caller ID & Spam Protection.
Voice Focus / Advanced Noise Cancellation: Missing from the call settings.
Proper Local Caller ID Formatting: Phone numbers don't always map cleanly to contacts without country dialing prefixes (+255).
Clean Carrier Bloatware-Free Experience: Verizon background services (com.vzw..., DT ONE) still try to trigger and auto-install bloatware.
I am planning to download the SM-G781U1 firmware with the XAA (US Factory Unlocked) sales region (G781U1UESNGYI1) and perform a clean flash via Patched Odin using the full CSC file (not HOME_CSC).
My Questions for the Community:
Is clean flashing G781U1 XAA the ultimate solution to permanently remove all Verizon remnants and unlock missing features like Smart Call?
Are there any bootloader restrictions or Knox triggers when cross-flashing from a Verizon G781V build to an unlocked G781U1 build (assuming Bootloader Bit/REV matches)?
Will switching to XAA affect radio bands or network connectivity on East African carriers (Vodacom, Yas, Airtel, Halotel)?
Any insights, tips, or potential pitfalls from anyone who has cross-flashed Verizon units to U1 Unlocked would be greatly appreciated!
