[Help] Switched S20 FE 5G (SM-G781V) to GCF CSC, but missing key features. Planning to clean flash G781U1 XAA—any advice?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently using a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G (originally the Verizon model, SM-G781V) in Tanzania.

I recently managed to change my CSC to GCF (Global Certification Forum). While it helped bypass some of the aggressive Verizon network behavior, GCF feels more like a raw testing profile rather than a daily-driver user region.

Features I'm currently missing on GCF / VZW firmware:

Samsung Smart Call (Hiya): No native Caller ID & Spam Protection.

Voice Focus / Advanced Noise Cancellation: Missing from the call settings.

Proper Local Caller ID Formatting: Phone numbers don't always map cleanly to contacts without country dialing prefixes (+255).

Clean Carrier Bloatware-Free Experience: Verizon background services (com.vzw..., DT ONE) still try to trigger and auto-install bloatware.

I am planning to download the SM-G781U1 firmware with the XAA (US Factory Unlocked) sales region (G781U1UESNGYI1) and perform a clean flash via Patched Odin using the full CSC file (not HOME_CSC).

My Questions for the Community:

Is clean flashing G781U1 XAA the ultimate solution to permanently remove all Verizon remnants and unlock missing features like Smart Call?

Are there any bootloader restrictions or Knox triggers when cross-flashing from a Verizon G781V build to an unlocked G781U1 build (assuming Bootloader Bit/REV matches)?

Will switching to XAA affect radio bands or network connectivity on East African carriers (Vodacom, Yas, Airtel, Halotel)?

Any insights, tips, or potential pitfalls from anyone who has cross-flashed Verizon units to U1 Unlocked would be greatly appreciated!

Dropped S20 FE from knee height and now it has problems

A few days ago i dropped my S20 FE and it was a pretty small drop too. When i checked on it, it was just turned off. After a while i jump started it and it had EVEN MORE problems being slow charging (sometimes), and randomly turning off, along with the fingerprint sensor not working. The phone does not have any damage on the outside. Anything i could do to troubleshoot until i can get to a repair shop?

Should i trade in my S20FE for the new Pixel 11 for 729€ ?

Hey everyone,

i am the proud owner of an S20FE with 128GB which i bought in 2021. As the S20FE does not get updates anymore im looking for good deals on new smartphones (which are all kinda meh for the price).

Currently Google is launching the Pixel 11 series and offers to buy my S20Fe for at least 200 Euros + the value of my phone (estiamted 70 euros) so i would get a Pixel 11 for 729€. Is that a good deal for the pixel 11 or should i wait for upcoming releases like the S26FE?

Found my crew ❤️ upgrade help

Edit; Thanks for input guys 🩵 I've found out, that I really dislike the newer designs of Samsung - very boxy, hard edges, looks like Iphones. I LOVE the design and size of the S20. What to do now - buy a used s20 fe or a used s20? Or a whole other phone. I like it to be basic, small, but still have good features. I don't game, photos just needs to be nice.

I've had my S20 FE for 5,5 years, and I LOOOVE it. But the screen is super cracked, the storage is full, battery is not superb and usb-c port is a bit unstable. Getting repairs just for the screen, is a lot more expensive than just buying a used one.

Also, I did try and replace it with a pixel 8 pro - daym what a horrendous idea 😅 cannot recommend, it gave me anxiety lol.

I'm thinking of just buying a used S20 FE. But also considering - should I upgrade? Is there any other phone of samsungs that feels similar and performs as well, but maybe a bit better on battery, camera, connection etc? (I would kinda like to have a phone that was a bit smaller than the s20 fe).

Cheers.

Battery Replacement Experience - Samsung SC India not doing battery calibration

Had mediocre service Experience in Samsung SC.

Using S20fe 5g snapdragon edition for close to 5 years.

Started getting battery degradation error. Need to charge twice daily.

Accubattery shows 71% battery life

Dev Check App shows battery cycle of more than 1660

Screen on time between 3 to 4 hrs

Also the back cover was coming out and both vol and power button detached from the frame holding it.

Went to service centre got battery replaced also the buttons and sealed the backcover.

Total Cost: INR 2800

Now comes the issue.

Even after battery Replacement, while running diagnosis via samsung member app, showing battery issue. SC told need to do factory reset. Did a factory reset from my side still Samsung Member App diagnostic showed battery issue.

More over there was no improvement in screen time.

SC had no answer to this they just told everything will be ok after several charging/discharge cycle.

Then i read the importance of battery calibration after Replacement, did it myself via adb and shizuku.

Screen time increased to 7hrs. Learned a bit it this process.

So if u r getting battery replaced be ready to do recalibration.

SAMSUNG S20 FE Battery Life

I'm having some serious issues with my battery draining.Ive got a Samsuuu S20 FE phone.... I am a spark driver, and even when the phones plugged in, this app kills the battery so fast. So, cpl questions. 1. Is there a way to clean ALL my Catche at once, or do I HAVE to do one app at a time? And 2. What can I do, if anything, to boost my battery life. Google says the battery apps usually kill the battery more. Can anyone suggest something that may help?

Compact Beast vs. Design Icon vs. Raw Flagship: OnePlus 13s, Nothing Phone 3 or Moto Signature?

You boy needs some purchasing help! I am adding to Galaxy S20FE. Obviously I'll continue to use our darling, but need a latest no bs primary driver. My preferences:

  1. Performance: Non-Gaming but Heavy Multitasking.
  2. BATTERY & Charging: Longevity, daily & life.
  3. Updates: Need Long term support.
  4. After-Sales Support: For Confidence.
  5. UI/UX: Fast and fluid. AI/ Spl features.

I am a guy who has always bought the so-called cooler/ edgy devices - First Redmi Note, Oneplus 1, Poco F1, Samsung S0 FE, now help me decide next...

To help you refresh,

Feature Nothing Phone (3) OnePlus 13s Motorola Signature
Exp Sale Price Rs. 45,000 Rs. 49,000 Rs. 52,000
My Take Enthusiast, Flagship, Community BUT Dated & Weak Hardware Ergonomics, good daily driver BUT Colour OS /future scares, USB 2.0, No Ultrawide? Solid hardware BUT after sale support - OS & service
Processor Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Snapdragon 8 Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5
Battery & Charging 5,500 mAh (15W Wireless) 5,850 mAh (NO WIRELESS) 5,200 mAh (90W Wired / 50W Wireless)
Software Nothing OS (Clean, unique aesthetic) 4 OS, 6 Secy left OxygenOS ColourOS16(Plus Key functionality) 3 OS, 5 Secy left Hello UI / Android 16 6 OS, 6 Secy left

If you’ve used any of these or are in a similar dilemma, which direction would you lean?

Appreciate your thoughts and real-world feedback!
