What do you make?

Curious as to what you make and what Your role is. I am getting to the point where I’m ready to look at other positions but the pay scales seem low. I am grateful for what I have, just ready to branch out.

I have 15 years experience- 4 years at current company and currently a senior underwriter. Base is $86k and I get about 20k in bonuses from my production underwriter I work for/under. I am fully remote but that’s because I work for an office in another state

Need advice on my next step

I am currently an underwriting assistant for an MGA. I’ve been in the role for about four years and I enjoy it. I’ve moved primarily to quoting new business.

I feel like I am more than ready and qualified to “step up” but I do not want to be a manager. I am not good with managing people and I don’t want to learn, just seems awful to me. I’m really hard on myself (which is why I’m successful imo) and I don’t think that would translate to a good manager.

I have made it clear to leadership that I have no intention of getting my own book of business because that intern would mean I’d have to manage my staff (UAs). I have several designations and really do enjoy working in insurance.

Is there a role I am not thinking of where I could still underwrite but not be a manager? I didn’t get a raise this year and was basically told I already make way more than others but then on the flipside they tell me I’m irreplaceable and they can’t imagine not having me there.

Any advice is appreciated! I’ve been in several insurance roles since I was 21 and I’m now 35.
