Morrison's attitude toward employees and H&S
I have been employed at Morrisons for around a year and I have serious concerns regarding health and safety practices and overall workplace management.
Following an incident at work, a colleague tripped me, causing me to fall and hit my head. I lost consciousness as a result. During the subsequent insurance claim process, I later discovered that statements had been submitted indicating I was unharmed, which I do not believe reflected what actually happened. As a result, I was unable to pursue a successful claim against the insurance company.
In addition to this, I did not receive sick pay during my recovery. Instead, I was placed on a performance review for alleged low performance during the period immediately following the incident. I was called into a meeting in the canteen by my manager and, at that time, I felt unable to contact my union representative and was pressured into signing a document requiring me to improve my performance within four weeks.
I have also been informed by colleagues of a similar case in which another employee suffered a broken leg and experienced a comparable response from management, including being placed on performance review while still in recovery.
While I was on performance review, I was assigned physically demanding tasks, including picking high pallets with heavy boxes and trays. I have concerns that these duties were not appropriate given my condition at the time.
There are also ongoing concerns among staff regarding hygiene standards in the warehouse, including toilets and general health and safety compliance. These issues appear to be inadequately addressed by cleaners and management.
Since the incident, I have experienced ongoing physical symptoms, including weakness in my arm and leg, in addition to post-concussion-related issues that have persisted for the last three years.
I am raising these concerns as I believe they reflect broader issues within workplace health and safety procedures and their handling by management.
