Experiences with Zara

I am looking for smart pants for work. Found this pair from Zara.

Am aware Zara‘s rep is very mixed. People say their stuff looks great online but IRL does not hold up. Many oZara pieces have caught my eye in the past but their rep put me off.

The pants above are online only so I cannot try them on.

I did visit their store one time and was not impressed (hand feel of garments was scratchy, visible loose thread, garments attracted dust).

But my partner bought a really well styled corporate overcoat from Zara. That shit is built like a tank, it must be 12 years old, got a lot of wear and looks as good as the day she bought it.

So any reports on your purchase? Pants above are 100% wool. Thx.

Comparing electricity retailers is confusing

i understand there is a loyalty tax if you stay with the same electricity retailer.

So in previous years I would use the government compare site so look for better deals.

Actually switching retailers is super easy (which is great).

But I find the results from the energy compare site are all fairly samey.

Even if uploading a bill I get offers that are all in the same ballpark. Maybe 1 deal that is 100 bucks cheaper, a bunch of deals at the same price and one or two that are more expensive than what I am on already.

Is that the general experience?

Noting the article below. It seems like the bills are deliberately confusing. fixed charges, usage charge, tariffs.

Can someone in the know tell me how to navigate this? Thx

What is with the up selling now?

Is it me or is every retailer pushing staff to up sell now?

I first noticed it about a year ago in my local noodle place. I call up say my order and at the end the person on the other end goes "is that all"?

Now at bakers delight, I ask for loaf of bread and then after giving it to me "Will there be anything else"?

Same in many other shops.

So I started pre-empting it. So rather that saying...

"Can I please have X" I now say "Can I please have X and that is all, thx".

But every time, I still get the "Is that all?" follow up question.

Would like to hear from people in retail.

Upselling has always been a thing but it seems like businesses are really pushing it these days. I think that regardless of what I say....they are forced to ask the follow up question. Are people getting into trouble if they don't?

P.S I'm not a dick and not rude to the staff ever. But when I say....'I want X and that is all" it feels a bit rude to get a "Is that all?" after that.

When I was on the train today a man got on who was having a mental episode.

50ish, heavy set, white, wearing a green tshirt. He was talking to himself, clearly paranoid and glaring at people.

The train stopped in the metro tunnel and a young guy sitting in front (happened to be of Indian background) got up to disembark.

The other guy pretended to get up too, manufactured a collision. At which point he lashed out at the Indian guy (a much slighter person).

The Indian guy was in shock but then squared up to the guy. I was in shock myself but unconsciously got up and put my hand on the Indian guy’s shoulder and escorted him to the door.

I just said ‘the guy is unwell and dangerous, just get out of here ‘

Thankfully he took my advice.

It wasn’t my stop do I unwisely stayed on the train. The mental guy started shouting at me calling me a ‘white dog’.

I moved down a few carriages to get away from him. I was scared he would come after me but thankfully he did not.

Got to my destination safely but I was shook up.

But my questions are:

Should I have called the cops? The danger was passed but the mental guy was still on the train. He could go off again.

I googled the STOP IT service. Apparently that is not monitored live. It is to gather info for investigation after the event.

Could I have pressed the emergency button and told the driver? Would that have helped?

i feel bad for not reporting it but TBH I wasn’t sure if I was overreacting or even how i could report it.
