Help deciding which type of griddle to get for my husband for a belated Father's Day gift

My husband has told me a number of times he wants a griddle. We're celebrating a belated Father's Day next week and I want to make sure I get a good one. Right now we have an electric griddle that's about 2 feet across that sits on our counter next to our stovetop. He is the default cook in our family and grills at least half of the nights of the week. He also uses the griddle fairly regularly, I'm not sure exactly how often.

He's mentioned wanting a Blackstone before. He said he was open to either indoors or outdoors.

We currently have a four-burner gas stove. Right next to our kitchen we have a balcony large enough for a large grill (could probably squeeze a grill and a griddle if they're more compact) and a dining table. Right now the balcony has a very bad, old, broken grill on it. This makes me wonder if we need to pick a new grill and griddle at the same time or if I can just ignore the grill for now.

My biggest questions are:

  • For an avid cook, how do I choose between an indoor and outdoor griddle?
  • Since we need to replace our grill soon, should I choose both grill and griddle at the same time or is it ok to get just a griddle for now?
