I started doing the background on this barrette, and you can see the white canvas in spots. What would you do to prevent that or is it expected? I could paint the background now that I have picked a color.

Using 4 strands of DMC on 18ct. If you have any suggestions for threads that fill better with decorative stitches on 18ct I would love them. Not redoing this one, but I have a Halloween one to do next. :)
