I'm looking for story (book, series) similar to Mary Renault. I love her Alexander the Great series. But I read almost everything from her.

Only one work came to close was Thousand Autumns by Meng Xi Shi.

I also read Madeline Miller - Circa, Song of Achilles

What I'm looking for: love theme, historical fiction with research and isn't only background for story, philosophical overtones, questions of morality, ethics, historical realism even with ugly parts, queer theme. Especially historical realism. I don't like when characters and story feels like author want to wrote it for modern sensitive audience.

Can be also more literary fantasy.
