Do you get sad by happy books?
Do you get a gut feeling of you not having any of the good stuff on happy books but can see yourself all around on sad and horror books? I prefer to read horror mm romance because of this!

Does anybody know of any books where two trans guys are dating each other?
I’ve found a few books with a transmasc main character, but they almost always get with a cis guy, and I’m hoping for some T4T love.
I’ll literally take anything at this point because I can’t find any transmasc T4T books anywhere, but my favorite genre to read is horror.
I've been catching up on Bojack Horseman and i cant stop thinking about Diane's Ivy Tran Food Court Detective book. What really caught my ear is when Sonny asked about a scene where the characters talk about how even though Moose isn't Ivy's friend but she'll always be his, whether she likes it or not. I liked that. I like the idea of these books. Where the characters would solve small mysteries but with there are these stories about social dynamics that are integral to the plot and characters. Where the small mysteries aren't the only thing in the plot. There's these complex slice of life parts of starting fresh after a parent dies, codependent and toxic friendships similar to Bojack and Diane. I'd want to read something like that.
I've gotten tired of the low stress mm romance books i usually read because often the only plot is the romance. And i like that but i've gotten tired of reading it so much. So i want to see if there are books where there is a gay romance and it is integral and advances the characters but its not the only thing. i obviously dont want the romance to just be a garnish where if you took it out, very little would change. i want the romance to matter very much.
But, i also want to read about mysteries and relationships/friendships that are actually complex and make you feel a whirlwind of emotions ( like pity, hatred, and yet respect for the characters all at the same time ). i want it to make me think about relationships and feelings i didn't even know existed in the world.
So, are there any books like this?
My partner is a huge reader, and she and I have spent the past 2 years hunting for books that reflect our lived experiences with little success.
I am a NB transmasc person and she's a queer cis woman. That being said, we're just look for rep that's somewhere close. I'd take any AFAB person under the trans umbrella with a romance with a cis woman- any genre, could be YA, could be a graphic novel even! Just want something other than cis sapphic pairings or MTF/M.
Thank you in advance, and don't be shy to just throw spaghetti at the wall with this one, haha. Literally any recs will be appreciated:)
Recently I read The Love Hypotheses and I’ve been thinking if there are others books, but with gay couples, that are similar with that one.
Can you help me finding a book with one of these vibes below?
Fake dating
STEM
college
Rom-com
Enemies to lovers
Etc
I'm starting to write an MM book, but English isn't my first language. I hope you guys can give me some feedback after you read it. Thanks! 🙏 I might probably be updating my novel chapter by chapter here.
Book’s name: After Winter
Story: A misunderstood university professor, forced to resign after being reported by an ex (his student), has lost all faith in love. A banker, accustomed to healing everyone else, is too terrified to open up again after a deeply painful, unforgettable heartbreak. Through repeated encounters and drawing closer to one another, they slowly learn how to trust again—and how to find their own shared light after this seemingly endless winter
The first chapter : Winter is long
Winter. Early evening.
Lin Yu'an lay alone on the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling. His mind felt both entirely empty and suffocatingly crowded, a weight pressing down on his chest. Thoughts drifted in and out, dissolving before they could ever take shape. He no longer knew what he was supposed to think about, let alone where those thoughts might lead him.
He hadn't been to work in days. The university had suspended him weeks ago. And today, on the seventh day of his suspension, they had finally scrubbed his faculty profile from the official website. His photograph remained, but his name was gone. He opened the webpage and stared at the empty space for a full ten minutes before letting out a low, hollow laugh.
"Good," he murmured to himself. "Maybe it's better this way."
His gaze drifted over to the dining table, where empty takeout boxes and disposable paper cups were piled high. For some reason, the clutter reminded him of himself. Once desperately craved, now discarded without a second thought.
His mind wandered back to that PowerPoint—more than a hundred slides, each one painstakingly prepared by his ex, who had also been his student. To Yu'an, that file had felt less like a work assignment and more like a love letter. Yet the moment it landed on the desks of the university administration, it had somehow mutated into the very evidence that destroyed everything. He could not fathom how the man who had once been so inextricably bound to him could now hate him with such absolute finality.
He picked up his phone and stared at the screen for a long time before finally composing a message to Zhan Xu.
Two years ago today, I used up all the luck I had that winter just to be with you. I still believe everything happens for a reason. I’ll be waiting beneath the largest plane tree on Peace Road at eight tonight. I’ll stay there until you come.
Lin Yu'an shot to his feet. Throwing on his overcoat and hastily wrapping a scarf around his neck, he rushed down to the underground parking garage. But the car, as cold and unresponsive as the winter night itself, refused to start no matter how many times he turned the key. Left with no choice, he hurried back upstairs to grab a face mask. He couldn’t bear the thought of being recognized by some stranger. Then he hailed a taxi, which soon dropped him off beneath the giant plane tree on Peace Road.
He rubbed his hands together and breathed into his cupped palms. The winter felt exceptionally bitter this year. He paced back and forth under the tree, stamping his feet against the creeping chill. An hour slipped away, yet the sidewalk remained stubbornly deserted. He checked his phone. Read.
Ever since the scandal broke, Zhan Xu had blocked him on every single social platform. Yu'an no longer wanted to place blame; he only wanted an explanation. Tonight, all he needed was a reason—one honest answer, one small gesture that would allow them both to step back from the edge of the cliff. If Zhan Xu would just give him that, their love might still have a path forward.
But the long, freezing night of waiting would unfold nothing like he had imagined.
I have a personal reading challenge I've been trying to complete since 2024 and I'm finally committed to finishing it by the end of the year. I'm mainly interested in queer fiction, so I'm looking for LGBTQ+ books that fit the following prompts :
Sobriety
A book where the main character is sober, and navigating addiction and recovery.
Already on my radar :
Foster Care/Adoption
A book where the main character has been in foster care and/or adopted OR takes care of a child in foster care and/or adopts.
Already on my radar :
Book About Books
A book that centers the importance and beauty of storytelling.
Chronic Illness or Pain
A book that features a main character with chronic illness or pain.
Long-Distance Relationship
A book that features a main character in a long-distance relationship. It doesn't have to be a romance, but I guess that's probably the most likely genre.
Assistive Technology
A book that features a disabled main character who uses assistive technology (e.g.: wheelchair, cane, mobility aids, hearing aids, specialized software, etc.).
Already on my radar :
Translated Book
A book that was originally written in a language other than English, but that has been translated in English.
Already on my radar :
I'm open to any genre, either adult or YA, and mainly looking for fiction since the prompts don't really make sense with nonfic. Thanks!
Hi everyone,
I'm looking for mlm books recommendations with the following things:
• Easy/moderate reading difficulty. I don't wanna spend more time in the dictionary than reading.
• A good/decent and interesting development of characters and story.
• Fairly young protagonists, between 18-30.
I know the three worlds model is not accurate but I really don't know how else to put it lol
I'm from south america and I do try to read diversely, yet I find myself feeling like I'm always reading stories taking place in the same places, US, UK, Canada, France, Japan, South Korea, etc. I wanna change that
So basically, I'm looking for queer books taking place in less commonly recognized countries, even better if the authors are also from those countries. Any genre will do as long as it's some sort of queer and the culture aspect shines through
Hi! I recently read Alpha's Claim by Min K(released like two months ago), and I was wondering if anyone had similar mpreg MM recommendations, preferably including the birth scene?
I read 7 Summer Nights by Harper Fox and loved it, except for the magical aspect of it all. The issue is I have a degree in archaeology, fake but somewhat plausible archaeology works (as it did for most of this book) but as soon as we get to magic or aliens my brain doesn't manage to turn off. I feel like I can't enjoy the book to its fullest anymore and I'm aware that this is very possibly a personal issue. I have searched high an low and found nothing like this, but maybe some of you have?
Since this seems to be a bit niche I will give preferences but none of these are necessities:
- I prefer books set not in the current age (idk, smartphones in books can take me out of it). However both books set further in the past or far in the future work fine
- I'd like it to be less Smut+plot and more Plot+maybe smut
- I don't need accuracy but I need the made up archaeology to at least make sense within the constraints of the World
Thank you for any recs you have!
edit: I have seen The first and Last Adventure of Kit Sawyer but I'm put off by the seemingly AI generated cover art, I don't support that.
The bones of our fathers is already on my reading list.
Queer romantasy that isn't omegaverse or YA. Any type of fantasy, (urban, contemporary, epic), and any gender combination are welcome. Bonus points for trans mc's and or disabled rep! I like a lot of action scenes and high stakes. I love some hatred and moral ambiguity, but no serious abuse between the main couple. I'm also down for some sci-fi if it fits all the other requirements.
Some popular ones I've read and liked:
Spear Cuts Through Water by Simon Jimenez
Entanglement of Rival Wizards by Sara Raasch
Coal Gets in Your Veins by Cat Rector
Gideon The Ninth by Tamsyn Muir
A Hex For Hunger by Alistair Reeves
Looking for MLM suggestions, can be any genre, but I do want some smutty stuff! Thanks!
i've read a few series (go for it nakamura, given, sasaki to miyano, the guy she was interested in wasn't a guy) and i'd like to expand my list
i'm fine with literally any genre/plot i just want genuine queer romance over subtext/implied stuff

Hello
I’m Hiro Ellis gamer and litRPG writer. This is my first in the genre and I hope you give the Arc a chance and fall in love with Nishan and Danny Kang.
The Tale of Nishan – Ascendant
A LitRPG Reborn Saga: The Weak to Strong Hero Book 1
A Reborn With A Hidden Class. A Murderous Sovereign Who Wants Him Dead. Can He Level Up Fast Enough to Stop an Entire Dominion's Destruction?
He awakens in the Inkfall Dominion with no memory of who he was—only a flickering system interface declaring him Reborn. Like countless others before him, he has been placed under the authority of a powerful noble House, assigned a path, and a name: Nishan Contract Blade, Tier 0.
Most Reborn accept their new lives.
Nishan doesn’t.
While others focus on leveling, climbing rank, and earning favor, he can’t shake the question that burns beneath his skin—Why does his ink pulse out of rhythm? Why does his HUD glitch when no one else’s does?
In Inkfall, power is carved into flesh through living contracts. Loyalty is binding. Advancement is everything. Reborn souls are political assets, and House rivalries are settled in blood and ink.
As House Kang edges toward destabilization and rival factions test its defenses, Nishan is thrust into missions far beyond his level. Every contract pushes him closer to death—and closer to something the System refuses to explain.
A hidden path begins to stir.
In a Dominion built on control, deviation is dangerous. In a world where gods sponsor champions from the shadows, anomalies are noticed.
To survive, Nishan must level faster than anyone expects.
To understand himself, he may have to break the very system that gave him power.
If you love weak-to-strong progression, immersive LitRPG systems, political intrigue, hidden classes, andamnesiac heroes, The Tale of Nishan – Ascendant begins an epic journey through Azoria—where leveling up is only the beginning.
Hello All!
I'm a part of a book club where everyone picks a book based on a theme then reports on what they read at the end of the month. It's been a fun change to talk about books monthly without having to read exactly what everyone else does, and you get a lot of good recs.
This month, the theme is "Retellings." It's broad on purpose. There are classic myths and fairytales (Malice, Song of Achilles, Cinder, etc.), but they can also be retellings of other popular film or fiction. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies would qualify, for example.
I have arbitrarily decided that I'm only going to read books that fit the theme and are trans. So for this month, I'm looking for any trans retellings people know. Trans characters. Trans author. Ideally trans femme but I'm not at all committed to that.
Can anyone help a girl out?
I’m wondering if anyone has any recs for books with trans men protagonists or romantic leads.
Trans man not trans masc, if possible. Love my trans masc siblings, but I feel like whenever someone recommends me media with a trans male character, it’s a trans masc person and never a trans man.
Preferably romance since a lot of other genres just end up being trans trauma porn. Gay or straight, I don’t mind. The perks of being bisexual. If anyone has recs about mlm romances where the trans guy isn’t feminized that would be especially appreciated, I feel like I can never find any.
Anyways, much love!
- a trans man who wants to read books where he feels represented
I just read Roan Parrish’s “Invitation to the Blues” like 10 times in a row, devoured most of her earlier books, and have been using romance.io to find anything similar—but would love to hear your recs for any (preferably spicy) romance featuring some combination of character growth, pleasure/gentle D/S dynamics, and/or healthy open relationships/polyamory.
I love Roan Parrish’s books because of how honest, funny, and realistic her characters feel—almost unlikeably flawed but somehow also lovable, sexy and human. I like how the spice feels like it’s advancing the plot and telling you more about the characters but also giving you a break from their problems. The mental health and neurodivergence rep is so so good, the politics are aligned for me, and the music & Philly tropes are great.
For reference, I also keep coming back to KJ Charles (especially the Will Darling series), the kink-adjacent books in Rachel Reid’s Game Changers, Emily Rath’s Pucking Around (the first few)—basically any book where the spice level is medium high or more and the D/S dynamics are both emotionally fulfilling and fun. Bonus points for characters with deep special interests, depictions of real friendships, honest mistakes, and imperfect but happy endings. I loved how Casey McQuiston wrote about queer sex and dynamics in the Pairing and also really like Skye Kilaen.
I read Sierra Simone’s Thornchapel series and loved some of it but got burned out on the characters’ emotional immaturity as the series wore on (and it got dark to be sure).
I struggle with fantasy but not opposed to it if it feels grounded—more ok with vampires, witches, or sci fi than with fae worlds. Most Likely To DNF bad D/S dynamics or abuse coded as DS, loads of jealousy talk, or characters who storm out of fights more than halfway through the book. Thanks!
As the title suggests. In this world of technology, anon hookups, Grindr, cruising, open relationships - is there any book that captures the modern gay life? Be it the sex positivity and reclamation or the loneliness that comes with it - all perspectives are welcome.
My 13 year old son is bi and loves to read. Any suggestions of teen-appropriate novels or memoirs for him? I'm looking for something with some romance but nothing too wild, high school love story stuff. Thanks!
