Here is where I stand with Baybayin

  1. I do not think it should replace the Latin script. "National Unity" this or "decolonize that", I feel like the Philippines would benefit way more by addressing other issues that actually affect millions of Filipinos. Insert poverty, pollution, teen pregnancy, the legal ability to divorce, the ability for same sex marriage, protection of indigenous people, or preserving regional languages that still exist, including ones with actual living non latin scripts like Hanuno'o. The fact of the matter is that the Philippines doesn't NEED baybayin.

  2. I DO believe that the people who wish to study baybayin are able to do so, and that we should promote others to learn it as long as it isn't at the expense of anything. I feel like transliterations are a good place to start. But no, I don't think the goal is to replace Latin.

  3. I don't like the invention of new letters. No further comment.

  4. I hate writing e/i. It always comes out ugly in my handwriting.

Would native filipino speakers be able to tell the difference between o/u, e/i, da/ra based on context?

I'm still learning Filipino, so I wouldn't be able to answer this question.

But lets say in the latin script, if we changed all u's to o's, e's to i's, and ra's to da's, would that cause any comprehension problems? For example, Hebrew is written without vowels and readers know the pronunciation based on context. Even in English, we determine c from s and k, whether a vowel is short or long, etc.

If not, why do some people still insist on the creation of new baybayin letters?

My friend's boyfriend was mad at her because she danced with 18 guys at her debut.

Of the guys, 1/3 of them were gay (me lol), the second third was her family, and the remaining were like 8 years old. There was probably only 2 friends her age. But anyhow, this is our culture!

We had tried to get her to break up with this nincompoop from the very start but I think this was the breaking point for her.

"I hate when tourists come to our niche local waterfalls and swimspots"

I don't understand people with this mentality.

Listen, I get you want your favorite spots to be well kept but here are some points I would like you to consider.

  1. Do you realize how many people don't have "local" access to a nice waterfall? Trust me if it was that easy to not make a 1 hour drive out of Beaverton OR to find a nice spot I would take advantage of it.

  2. What do you even define as "local". 5, 10, 30, an hour out? I'll get shot for saying this but I don't consider myself a tourist when in a Washington town bordering the Columbia river. I'm certainly "not from around there" but it's not like I'm Martian. Who would you consider more of a non local in Vancouver, someone from Seattle or someone from Portland?

  3. Most people travelling to waterfalls are fellow PNW residents. If you assume that it's "non locals" trashing your place do you think they treat there own more local spots the same way? How are you sure its not your own that "ruins" spots.

  4. This could just be my narrow selection of places, but I simply don't see that much trash around. Even when places get crowded I never see an terrible amount of waist.

  5. Is your spot even niche. I once saw someone try to gatekeep Hagg lake. Are you freaking kidding me.

At the end of the day this is my opinion. Please don't kill me. I just wish my fellow PNW residents shouldn't be so hostile to our own kind. Our corner of the country is beautiful and wanting to gatekeep it from our own neighbors is something I do not understand.

Is their a short cut for an accented letter?

My last name has an é, but I forgo it when I type with a keyboard. Is there any way I can make a command for it?

I am a riggid heddle weaver but eventually I plan on getting a floor loom. I was wondering how high of a thread count I could get on a home loom. A lot of the reeds I am finding online stop at 16. But then I later found out that the dent size doesn't always equal the warp count (which is new to me as a RH weaver). I suppose the warp process is wildly different then RH loom with thousands of extra steps. I would appreciate any good resources!
