Are there any technologies that are still used today but were more advanced in the past?

Were we better off with the Jackass cast members taking a literal crap in front of restaurant patrons rather than the manosphere/gamer influencers of today? My answer is yes but I’m curious about you folks. Millennials were so unserious and into bizarre comedy styles but I guess we still have some of that.
