I think i have a theory on these mrbeast scams
so we all know of the infamous mr beast crypto scam thats been going around as of late, well i think i may have an idea on how they spread
so we all know that many of these scams come from compromised accounts, but how do those accounts actually get compromised? obviously some idiots fall for them, but i think there might be a bigger case for poisoned image links
some bad actors can make image links have malware or trojans hidden in them so when you click them open, they secretly download a payload or malware that strikes at an unknown time, and many people don't bother to check or clean their system. What i think is that many of these images may be poisoned if you open them up in the browser, infecting you with hidden malware that doesn't go off until a specific time, i've seen several people get hacked multiple times by this scam despite not clicking on anything suspicious, so i suspect some of these must be poisoned and thus have a payload which launches after a certain period of time so people never know when it will strike, thats my only explanation for how these scammers manage to compromise accounts when you have alot of smart users who don't click on fishy links
(heres a link to another reddit post that supports my theory https://www.reddit.com/r/antivirus/comments/1pnd8bz/comment/nu7u1l1/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button)
again this is just a theory i've gained from looking at previous incidents, i cannot fully confirm if this is the case but i did accidentally click on one of these images a bit ago but i cleaned out my computer and looked for hidden things, but if i do get hacked, then that'll prove my theory, hopefully not but we'll see
