1960s North Japanese Army Uniforms

A part of my Fractured Sun scenario.

When Japan was divided after world war 2, the Soviet Union would establish the Japanese Democratic Republic. Prior to 1948, the main military force of North Japan was the Red Guards, which were the paramilitary wing of the Japanese communist party, but in 1948, the Japanese People's Army was established as North Japan's official ground force with it receiving military support from the Soviet Union throughout the cold war.

The JPA's most major military action was the July incident of 1950 when rogue elements of the JPA launched a border incursion into the South that was eventually repulsed, along with other minor border skirmishes with the South throughout the cold war and up to the modern day,

Generally, the uniforms of the JPA are purposely designed to resemble the uniforms of the Imperial Japanese Army during world war 2 in order to avoid looking like a Soviet puppet army, and early on the JPA did make use of recycled IJA uniforms.

The weapons and armaments of the JPA are mainly composed of Soviet supplied weapons as well as licensed copies produced in North Japan, but many leftover WW2 Japanese weapons rechambered in Soviet ammo were in service with the JPA throughout the 50s and 60s.
