Need help deciphering the arcane

While cleaning my tower, I found this ring in the pocket of a cloak I haven’t worn in ages. I don’t recall where it came from, it is for sure enchanted with some sort of incantation, but for the life of me I can’t figure out what it is.

Have any of you seen anything like it? Any clue what it might do? It’s a bit gaudy, but I think I’ll keep it.

My wizard and the party fighter are bonding over dragon chess and it brings me so much joy.

I’m playing an older human wizard (64M) who spent his younger years traveling from town to town dispensing wisdom and telling stories in taverns in exchange for free drinks and small donations. In his time hanging around taverns, he played A LOT of dragon chess. Despite never researching any openings or strategy, he developed a knack for the game through exposure.

The party fighter (human, late 20s) spent time actually studying the game with a wise man from his village. A wise man who, according to our DM, was a Dragon Chess Master. Mechanically, our fighter has a low INT score, but has proficiency in dragon chess. My wizard (we’ve decided) doesn’t know anything beyond the basics, but has a higher INT score.

Anytime our party has some down time, we get the board out and play best of 3 (INT check + mods, highest roll wins.) So far, my Wizard is undefeated. The fighter SWEARS that I’m just getting lucky (which is true) and that he WILL defeat me. We even RP little scenes where the fighter will be like “how did you know to counter my gambit by shutting out my rook?” And my wizard will say something like “Rook? Is that the little horsey? I like that one.”

What’s extra cool about this is that it wasn’t discussed at all before the game, it was completely serendipitous! Turns out, myself and this other player both play chess IRL, and now we’re bonding both IRL AND in the game!

Anyway, It’s a minor point in our campaign that’s brought me a lot of joy. I just thought I would share.

Thanks for reading!
