10/10 recommend against flying from Melborne on Qatar airways. It’s the only place I have had issues flying with them - forced me to check Camera in. I always fly with camera equipment, and book 35 kg check in and extra carry on. My camera bag weighs 11kgs, and I never check a bag in. I know I’m only technically allowed 7kgs hand carry, but I usually get the ok that my bag is only a little over weight because I have so little check in.
I fly with this set up regularly, and have only had this issue once before - also in Melborne on Qatar airways in 2020. Even Ryan air isn’t this bad.
Ps. Don’t book premium tickets on Qatar, they don’t have premium economy, they just charge you 800$ extra for extra weight.
