Would far would you go to defend your kid from a bully?

Say they are both 15 years old.

The bully’s parents are also pieces of shits, so talking to them hasn’t worked.

Police are unlikely to help unless it’s something really serious.

The bullying is getting more and more physical.

Your own kid is taking self-defence classes, but just isn’t the sort of kid to fight back.

Would you get involved?

How far would you go?

…….hypothetically

What is supposed to be bad about China cars entering the UK market?

With the more established brands becoming more and more expensive (and/or most of us getting poorer), I find it surprising that some people don’t like the arrival of these China cars. ‘Temu Range Rover’ is a term I see floating around.

They are cheaper and pack a lot of features as standard. Even if you never want one, surely it’s a good thing that they are here to challenge the more established brands. Whether it’s on price or quality. It is how the free market should work.

It’s the lack of competition that emboldens brands like BMW to do shit like subscription to heated seats, lol. Recently they’ve also experimented with Ads on their infotainment screens too. To me, that’s a sign that they are getting far too comfortable with your brand loyalty.

And don’t even mention reliability or the cost of servicing modern cars. No brand can really say they are better than any other brand, when they all expect you to service their cars every fking year or it’ll self-destruct.

Do you not like people buying them? Why not?

Do you sympathise with someone who has had a traffic accident and has caused a huge traffic jam?

I’m just wondering how people feel about these situations.

You’re on the motorway, suddenly come to a standstill and need to wait, say, 2 hours for the police to come and sort it out.

You are one of the hundreds just waiting in the standstill traffic. Where is your mind at?

Not too long ago, my family and I were on the road to visit family. I noticed a knob of a driver speeding, weaving in and out of traffic like a lunatic. Over and under taking. They passed by and I didn’t think more of it. It’s unfortunately not an unusual sight.

A few minutes later, got stuck in traffic. Almost 2 hrs later, I see it was the same dickhead who had caused the accident. Their car was totalled but being honest, I just couldn’t find any sympathy within me to give.
My wife was far more sympathetic and I just think these people don’t deserve it.

What exactly are supermarket security guards supposed to do?

After witnessing another brazen shoplift where the security guard just watches the guy leave with a basket of unpaid beers. It had me wonder.

What is a security guard’s job if not to stop these sort of crimes?

Ok, it’s established that they will not intervene because of rules. But surely they are paid to do something. What exactly? What does the job entail these days?

It’s like a baker that doesn’t need to bake. Or a police that doesn’t need to fight crime (oh wait…..)

Are some of you dog owners offended when someone shields a child away from your dog?

I need some confirmation here. I always get the impression that some dog owners feel offended whenever someone shields away or deliberately leaves some distance between them and the dog.

Am I just imagining the dirty looks I get whenever I place myself in between the dog and my 3 yr old?

Which lies can you see straight through?

Do you sometimes find that there are certain lies that people tell that most people just seem to unconditionally believe and only you smell the bullshit?

The lie that I seem to be able to sense is when someone tries really hard to convince people that they are in a super happy relationship with their partner. It just seems so obvious.

You guys have any that you can see through?

Edit: let’s spare the Jay Cartright ones, yeh, lol

Why is the ‘bullshitter’ character type so prevalent in our culture?

A couple of these people in your lifetime is not surprising.

But shit, in the UK you will almost certainly find one in every workplace, every family, every friend group.

Sure, you’re going to find these types all around the world. But I’ve worked with many different people and this sort of behaviour, to me, seems more prevalent with us Brits.

Where does it come from?

Bonus points if you share a bullshitter’s story, lol.

Do you encourage kids to stand up for themselves?

My brother and SIL have honestly done everything right to raise their son.
He’s (14yrs) kind, considerate, and gentle. I’m not just saying this because he’s my nephew, he really is a gent.

Unfortunately, not all kids are raised the same way and a few have seen my nephew as an easy target.

My brother and SIL have had meetings with the school, but the bullying has continued. They’ve just learnt to be more sneaky about it.

My SIL is trying to teach him to ‘rise above it’. But I honestly don’t know how useful that is at this stage.

I accidentally suggested that he should try to stand up to them. He might get hurt along the way, but it’s about sending a message to them that he won’t be an easy target anymore.

I don’t know if that was the right thing to do. I know his mum wouldn’t appreciate it much.

What advice have you given kids in similar situations?

Side note:
It’s sad that we can’t just teach our kids to be as kind and gentle as possible.
Because other parents are bringing up dickheads, so we have to decide how much ‘aggression’ we should leave in our own kids.
The cycle will never end.

Which side talks more crap about the other, north or south?

Full disclosure, Londoner here.

We need to draw on more experiences to help settle a debate.

Does the north talk more shit about the south, or vice versa?

Personally, honestly, I hear way more northerners go on and on about how evil, cold and corrupt we all must be. But I don’t even remember a time a southerner went out of their way to talk shit about the north. If anything, I only ever hear them say nice things about them.

Is it possibly a power-play thing when some parents hold people up during the school rush?

I’m not talking about just a brief few seconds of inconvenience it causes other people. I’m talking about holding up 3/4 separate families trying to pass.

It would be 2 or more parents having a casual conversation and they clearly see the rest of us, but won’t make way for people to pass. Not until someone says something. I see poor kids not knowing what to do and just get on the busy road to pass.

Am I giving these people too much credit for knowing what to do and that it’s simply an entitled choice on their part?

Or do these adults really not know?!?
