Calibrating Ironing And Walls

I've been doing some calibration prints this morning. I'm actually a bit blown away by the quality I've managed on my CC2.

I have 6x2 magnets that slip into those holes with a surprising level of precision and the ironing on the top surface (pic 2) has completely blown me away.

But the odd regular mistake in pic 3 has me a bit confused. What could cause that imperfection?

CC2 - Stepper Motors

Not sure what's going on, but I had to manually turn off the stepper motors today.

I couldn't figure out why after being idle all afternoon it was still making a fan like sound. Turned out it was the stepper motors. Hitting the power button for the motors immediately stopped the sound.

Anyone know why that might have happened?

Constraints Yet Again - Mirroring

Just a quick question. In the second screenshot. I drew and constrained the left side circles. I then mirrored them to the right side. But it didn't copy the constraints automatically.

Is there a way to do that?

Constrains Again -> External Projection -> Wire Not Closed

I think I'm slowly getting the hang of constraints, but there's still a lot of surprises and head scratching going on.

The latest question is about External Projection.

Bringing in bits of another sketch to constrain against seems to make sense. But when I then try to apply anything to resulting sketch, like a pocket, I get an error that the wire is not closed as the projected bits of geometry seem to become part of that sketch.

If I then go back into the sketch and remove the edges I projected, the sketch becomes under-constrained, but I can apply the desired pocket without error.

I'm clearly getting something wrong or misunderstanding the process. How can I avoid this?

Failed Print - Rite of passage!!

I feel like a proper 3D printer dude now ... 😃

Just had my first failed print, 1 week in. I've printed an absolute stack of stuff in that time (almost all day every day). So not bad going.

Scrubbed the build plate a number of times this week. So just did it again, running full calibration run and gonna try again.

Constraints Idiots Guide

I've been watching tutorials and working along with things, mainly Mango Jelly videos (so good). But I just do not get how to work with constraints, at all. I think coming from a Blender background has really screwed me over in some respects.

I just seem to bounce around between under, over, conflicting and redundant, never finding full. It feels massively unintuitive and utterly confusing.

I'm just working with rectangles at the moment and I cannot seem to even grok it with simple shapes.

Is there an idiots guide explainer that people recommend? Like, explain it to me like I'm in a coma and with an IQ the same as my shoe size.

The goal is to design an E-Paper panel mount. So very flat rectangle with a shallow pocket.

I've created a body, extruded it and drawn a rectangle sketch on top of that. All good. I selected the top left point, bottom right point, middle line Y, hit symmetric. All good. Added a pocket, exported that to STL and printed it. It's perfect.

Wooo, I get it! 😃

Slow down sunshine, you don't, not remotely.

OK, I need an extra little cut out to allow for the E-Paper ribbon connector to the display i'm mounting in this thing.

I first tried to add to the original rectangle that applies the pocket but just couldn't figure that out. I thought I could just draw another rectangle a union them. Is that possible?

I decided to just repeat the process of the original rectangle sketch and apply an equal pocket

So, I did that, but the process just isn't working at all, odd things keep happening to the second rectangle. I'm so confused in the process I'm not even sure I can formulate questions at the moment.

I'm actually feeling so confused about where I am, I might just start again from scratch as editing this just feel like an impossibly daunting prospect. TIA.

Fitting Centauri Carbon 2 Anti Vibration Feet

OK I give up. Is there *any* documentation or guide on how these are supposed to be fitted?

Nothing on the Elegoo site, nothing on their YouTube channel and Google isn't turning anything up.

They arrived with no documentation, instructions or fitting guide.

It *looks* like the existing feet need removing, but apparently that wasn't how the CC1's AV feet worked.

First Setup CC2

I've just booted it up for the first time and ran all the initial tests.

It's just doing a few firmware updates to get me to the latest version. Should I re-run all the calibration stuff after it's up to the latest version?

Seems a bit odd that on first boot it doesn't update the firmware before self-testing.

E-Paper Display Recommendation - Dalian Good Display

This is more of a recommendation post that a technical one.

I'm working on an ESP32 project that needs an E-Paper display. I'd tried one and just ran into endless issues with ghosting and non-functional partial updates.

Took a step back and sourced a screen I knew was properly and fully supported by GxEPD2.

That screen came from Dalian Good Display Co. So I ordered one.

One of the sales people started emailing personally making sure I had all the details I require, where to get their demo code and to offer any post-sales technical help I may need once the display arrives.

I've not had service like this from *any* other company I've bought parts from.

Props to you Dalian Good Display. I just wanted to acknowledge great support and recommend them if you're looking for an E-Paper display.

Are there any tools around for working with graphics? I want to create some icons and was wondering there were any tools that help with the process of creating / converting to the data arrays?

I've got something really screwy going on. It's like the IDE has forgotten how to handle this board.

I have a sketch that works. Load it onto a Sparkfun C5 everything works fine, serial output prints.

Load the same onto the C6, nada. It's not anything basic like baud rate, board config, I've checked everything multiple times.

It's like the IDE has forgotten how to handle the output from this board. I've tried it on two different Feather C6s. No dice.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Would a uninstall / reinstall cycle fix it? It's so weird.

I have an Adafruit Feather C6 connected to some sensors. I'm having other issues getting all the readings sent over Zigbee which is kinda pushing me to thinking I'm just trying to do too much with all these sensors in one circuit.

Everything hardware/software wise works great on USB. But as soon as I swap over to my 3.7 LiPo, it no longer enters sleep mode.

I think this might be brownout / voltage droop issue but not sure. I'm not that experienced with electronics. They are all connected via STEMMA QT in a chain (in the order listed below) If this was the issue, what could I do to attempt to remedy it?

Hardware:

  1. Adafruit Feather C6
  2. Adafruit VEML7700 Ambient Light Sensor
  3. Adafruit AS7331 UV / UVA / UVB / UVC Sensor
  4. Adafruit AS7343 14-Channel Light / Color Sensor
  5. Adafruit DS3231 Precision RTC

Due to my Zigbee issues I'm thinking of making two devices instead of trying to do all of this with one microcontroller, but I also think I might learn some stuff here by persevering a little. TIA.
