I’m 20 years old, and over the past few years my anxiety has gotten so bad that it feels like i’ve become a completely different person. I constantly overthink about everything, especially every interaction i have with other people. After every conversation, i replay it in my head over and over, wondering if I sounded weird, if I said the wrong thing, or if people judged me. It never stops, it gotten to the point where i don’t want to speak anything, and it has gradually affected every part of my life. But i wasn’t always like this. I used to be a sociable, confident person. People considered me attractive, i had a girlfriend, i had a good relationship with my family, i could speak loudly and articulate clearly, joke around naturally, and I genuinely enjoyed being around people. Now I feel like the complete opposite. I ended up dropping out of college largely because of my social anxiety. I can technically talk to people, but I can’t relax, open up, or be myself anymore. I can’t joke naturally, and every social interaction feels forced. My relationship with my parents has become much worse because of everything that’s been happening. Also i don’t have a girlfriend anymore, i’ve gained weight, developed acne, i feel much less attractive, my voice has become quieter, and I struggle to articulate my thoughts the way i used to.
I just wonder if this could somehow be hormonal, like low testosterone, because i feel like i’ve changed so much physically and mentally. I’ve even caught myself thinking about testosterone injections because I feel so desperate to get my life back. I know that might sound dumb, but that’s how hopeless i’ve become.
Has anyone else gone through something like this around 19–20 years old? Did you eventually get your personality and confidence back? What actually helped you?
