Quiet gated villa communities in Hyderabad (2 BHK) – looking for future planning info

I’m planning to move back to Hyderabad in a couple of years and just want to get a realistic sense of good gated villa/row house communities.

I’m mainly looking for quiet, safe neighborhoods with 2‑bedroom villas. Since I won’t have a daily commute, I’d prefer staying away from high‑traffic areas like Hitec City or Gachibowli and leaning toward calmer outskirts.

My must‑haves:

  • Safety — dependable security and a comfortable community feel
  • Walking spaces — internal walking tracks or green areas
  • Low noise — away from highways and construction zones

I’m open to quieter pockets like Mokila, Tellapur/Kollur outskirts, Kompally, and similar areas.

What I’m trying to understand:

  • Communities worth checking out
  • Realistic rent ranges for 2 BHK villas/row houses (including maintenance)
  • Things to keep in mind when living slightly outside the city — water quality, power backup, access to groceries, etc.

This is just early research, but any suggestions or personal experiences would really help.

Is 1 to 1.5L per month enough to live comfortably in Hyderabad if you own a home?

I am trying to figure out how much I would need every month to live comfortably in Hyderabad.

I am a 42F, single, and I already own my apartment, so there is no rent or EMI.

My regular expenses would include:

  • Health insurance
  • Groceries and home cooked food
  • Maid
  • Driver when needed
  • Electricity, internet, phone, and other utility bills

I do not go to clubs or spend much on nightlife. I mostly prefer staying at home and eating home cooked meals. I travel occasionally.

I am thinking 1 to 1.5L per month should be enough for this kind of lifestyle. Does that sound about right, or am I missing something?

Would love to hear from people living in Hyderabad with a similar lifestyle. What does your monthly budget look like?

Edit: Currently living in US.

Returning to India after years in the US: What should I do with my 401(k)?

Hi everyone,

I am a 42F currently living in the US and planning to move back to India in the next few years. I am starting to think about the financial side of the move, and my biggest question is about my 401(k).

I am wondering what makes the most sense:

  • Should I just leave my 401(k) invested in the US and withdraw it later when I retire?
  • Or should I move the funds during the RNOR period if that has any tax advantages?

One thing that's making this decision harder is the investment aspect. The US market, especially the S&P 500, has given pretty solid long-term returns. I am not sure if there are comparable investment options in India.

If I move the money out of my 401(k) during the RNOR window, are there any investment options that have the potential to deliver returns similar to the S&P 500? Or is it generally better to leave the retirement money in the US?

Also, for those who've already made the move back to India, are there any financial or tax-related things you wish you'd planned for beforehand?

Would love to hear from people who've been through this. Thanks!

Edit: I am a US Citizen and OCI card holder.

Any divorced Indian women in their 40s here?

I am a 42-year-old Indian woman from Hyderabad, living and working in the US for the past 20 years. After 21 years of marriage, I am now divorced and trying to figure out what this next phase of life looks like.

My child will be leaving for college next year, so life is about to change in a big way. I am financially independent, and my mom is currently staying with me, but I am still wondering what the future will look like.

I am not looking to remarry. What I find myself thinking about is what life is really like as a single woman in her 40s, especially as an Indian.

My biggest concern isn't money—it's everything else. How does society treat you? Does life get lonely? How do you build a meaningful and fulfilling life once your children become independent? What challenges did you face that no one talks about? And what turned out to be better than you expected?

I'd really love to hear from women who've been through this. The good, the bad, and everything in between. Your experiences and perspectives would mean a lot to me.
