£85m for an 18-year-old sounds insane... Until you look at what city are actually rebuilding

City are reportedly close to Ayyoub Bouaddi for a deal that could reach around £85m. That is an absurd amount for an 18-year-old, no way around it.
But I dont think they’re buying him to be “the new Rodri” next month. Anderson already covers some of the physical work, Bouaddi gives them a calmer deep passer, and reports still have City looking at another senior midfielder.
The scary part is timing. Everyone knows City need a midfield after Rodri, so every seller has leverage.
If Bouaddi becomes a starter for eight years the fee will look normal eventually. If City need him to fix the team immediately, it could get ugly fast.
