If you're interested in the history of ME, I really recommend watching this video. It gives a really good overview of how ME has been understood and treated over the years, and how we ended up where we are today.
One thing I found particularly interesting is the history of the idea that outbreaks of ME were a form of “mass hysteria”, especially because many of those affected were women. That history is important for understanding why ME has been viewed through a psychological lens for so long, and why some of those attitudes still persist today.
Definitely worth watching if you want to understand where some of the stigma around ME comes from.
