Left eye swollen and painful for 5 years-multiple eye doctors only say it's dry eye

Hello everyone,

I've been getting my eyes checked regularly every few months. I wear glasses with a prescription of -4.00 for my myopia, and I also have dry eyes, so I've been using carboxymethyl cellulose sodium eye drops as recommended.

The issue is that my left eye has looked swollen for about the past 5 years. I've seen multiple eye doctors, but every time they tell me it's just dry eye and to continue using the lubricating drops.

However, the outer corner/edge of my left eye (the area I've marked in the picture) is often painful and feels swollen, even if it doesn't always look very obvious. Lately, I've also started noticing what seems to be a slight hypotropia (the left eye appears to sit a little lower than the right).

Since this has been going on for years and doesn't seem to be improving, I'm wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or has any idea what else could cause these symptoms. Has anyone had a condition that was initially mistaken for dry eye?

I'm not looking for a diagnosis—just wondering if there are any conditions I should ask my eye doctor to evaluate or whether I should seek a different type of specialist.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If the S27U maintains the unchanged privacy display, will you buy it?

I'm not sure I will. I had significant eye syrsin/headaches with the S26U before I returned it for that reason. If Samsung doesn't either improve the privacy display screen technology or offer an S27 without it, I may have to look elsewhere.

We built a screen overlay app for eye strain — here's how it works

Hi r/eyestrain,

We're the team behind ComfortEyes, a small Windows app designed to make long hours in front of a screen easier on your eyes. We wanted to share what we built and hear from anyone who's dealt with similar issues.

The idea came from frustration with the fact that modern displays are simply too harsh and high-contrast for extended use. ComfortEyes takes a different approach: it lays two customizable image filters directly over your entire desktop, giving your display the calm, paper-like quality of an e-ink screen. Text comes out sharper and more defined, while overall glare and brightness are toned down.

https://preview.redd.it/p3zklwq75x9h1.png?width=601&format=png&auto=webp&s=638c852d3b740ac1a5437b63e4447b58cfe7a714

Tweakable filter parameters:

  • X/Y Shift — nudges the filter layer slightly off-center to create a subtle edge enhancement effect around fonts, making text easier to read at a glance. Small non-zero values like 3 or 4 pixels also produce a natural 3D depth effect on text that users may find easier to focus on
  • Blend — controls the strength of the effect; higher values deepen the e-ink look but also dim the screen, so you can dial it to your preference

A note for users with astigmatism: astigmatism causes the eye to perceive a faint ghost image slightly offset from the original — which is a big part of why screens feel so tiring to look at. ComfortEye's invert-shift filter works by introducing an equal and opposite offset layer that cancels out that ghost image, reducing the visual confusion your eyes are constantly trying to correct for. The X/Y Shift settings let you tune this offset to match your specific condition, which is why some users find a particular shift value that feels noticeably more comfortable than others.

The free trial pauses every 20 minutes to remind you to take a short break — just press Resume when you're ready, and repeat as many times as you like. It's the 20-20-20 rule baked right in.

FL 41 glasses aren't talked about here enough

For real. They almost single handedly fixed all my chronic eye strain issues. My quality of life is like 90% better. I actually feel real now. I'm using the 50% tint from Zenni. I would recommend them to anyone

I made a free app to dim the screen well below the normal minimum. Sharing in case it helps!

Bright screens at night were rough on my eyes and the monitors minimum wasn't low enough, so I built a small free tool that lowers brightness in software (whole screen, cursor included). Not medical advice, just sharing what helped me.

Nxtpaper 11 plus

Hello, so I have used eink and Nxtpaper tablet for eye strain. I have B&W eink tablet and it's very good for reading and eyestrain, however, it's slow. Many apps crash and I can't work with this tablet because of this. So I tried Nxtpaper 11 plus it's LCD tablet and they have 3 modes. I tried all modes and I like the Eink mode the best. They have good screen and specialy made to reduce eye strain. So I am using eink mode, dark mode and I reduced brightness even more with some app from google play. And it's working. No problems at all. And with this tablet I can work. So eink still has the best screen but if you need tablet with speed I suggest you to try Nxtpaper 11 plus. For me its totally fine. Good tablet. And using eink mode it makes white color very calm and creamy. Much better! Okay, have a great day. I hope this will help for someone. Remember, to make it more effective you have to use right settings otherwise you will not feel the difference between others LCD tablets. So for reading eink is 10/10 and Nxtpaper is 8/10. For smooth workflow eink is 4/10 and Nxtpaper 10/10. For writing eink is 9/10 and Nxtpaper is 5/10.
