Ageing is easier as a mid woman
Since high school, I’ve been part of a friend group with three other girls. While I’ve never considered myself ugly, I was undeniably the least conventionally attractive among us. Two of them worked as models, and though the third never did, but was frequently told she easily could have if she had been taller. I was also always a bit heavier than they were, not overweight by any means, just in comparison/within the Slavic culture.
I was self conscious about this throughout high school and well into my mid twenties. They would get approached constantly at bars and clubs, even on the street, while I never experienced that kind of attention; they’d also receive a lot of attention on social media.
We’re all 34-36 now, and it’s fascinating to see how much less important physical appearance has become in my life compared to them. This is not a case of my friends having neglected their personalities or interests because of their looks. They’re all kind, have cool personalities and good careers. I am not at all more interesting/intelligent or whatever than them. We are all married now.
Even so, they still seem to rely on the validation that comes from being attractive. I’m the only one in the group who doesn’t get Botox or fillers and who doesn’t dabble in expensive cosmetic procedures. I’m also the one who doesn’t spend the entire summer sitting in the shade to avoid sun damage.
I sometimes think that being average looking my whole life has helped me develop a healthier relationship with my appearance. Because looks were never something I could rely on for attention or validation, they gradually became less important to me. That’s not to say I don’t care about how I look, but I don’t spend much time or money on it.

Whoever posted this on the sub - thank you!
This stuff ticks all the boxes:
- light & non-sticky
- doesn’t break me out
- non-fragranced
- once again, cheap
- and most importantly, it provides lasting moisture (a lot of lightweight moisturizers don’t in my experience). I put it on Wednesday after showering and my skin still didn’t feel dry on Friday.
I hope DM doesn’t discontinue this, we need affordable high quality products in this economy.

This pisses me off so much
I’m not even Albanian, but I’ve traveled in the vicinity of the island described here, and it’s so serene. There are a number of endangered species living on and around the island. I also know that the country is corrupt and there are already a lot of land disputes + someone else might have bought the land to turn it into a luxury resort but it makes me particularly angry that it’s the Trump-Kushner family. Fuck them, fuck the rich.
Possibly the worst piece of poetry I've ever heard, and I bartended at a bar which held weekly spoken word nights for 5 years
It's the smugness and the over-the-top sassiness
