What’s driving the different stories around these 3 ASX companies

I’ve been looking at three ASX companies recently, and what caught my attention is how different the stories behind them are.

DroneShield is probably the most technology-focused of the three. Its RfRecon system is designed to detect and interpret radio-frequency activity around drones, with AI helping analyse what it picks up. With counter-drone technology evolving so quickly, it’s an interesting space to watch.

Domino’s is a completely different story. Right now, the focus seems to be less on simply selling more pizzas and more on cutting costs, improving franchisee profitability and generating stronger free cash flow.

Then there’s Boss Energy, where the bigger theme is uranium supply. Bringing new production online can take a long time, so supply constraints remain an important part of the discussion around the sector.

That leaves three very different themes:

Defence technology. Cost efficiency. Uranium supply.

That’s what makes these companies interesting to compare. They’re operating in completely different industries, with very different factors shaping their outlook.

Which of these three themes do you find the most interesting, and why?

CBA (ASX: CBA) FY26: Profit Hits $11bn as Bank Outgrows the System

Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX: CBA) delivered a strong FY26, with cash NPAT rising 7% to $11 billion and statutory NPAT up 8% to $10.9 billion.

But the bigger story was growth. CBA grew at or above system across home lending, business lending, consumer finance and household and business deposits, a milestone not achieved by a major Australian bank in 15 years.

💰 Bigger Profit, Higher Dividend

CBA lifted its FY26 dividend to $5.05 per share, up 4%, including a fully franked final dividend of $2.70.

ROE reached 14.0%, while pre-provision profit climbed 6% to $16.5 billion.

📱 Customers + Technology

CBA added more than 655,000 retail transaction accounts and 90,000 business accounts. App users passed 9.6 million, with 14.3 million daily logins.

The bank also increased technology and resilience investment by 6% to $2.4 billion, with AI, automation and cloud upgrades becoming key parts of its growth strategy.

🔎 What’s Next?

CBA enters FY27 with strong capital, funding and liquidity, but faces a cooling economy, softer housing conditions and higher credit risks.

The big question: Can CBA turn its technology investment into stronger productivity and earnings growth?

Xero’s FY26 Growth Story: Is AI the Next Big Driver?

Xero (ASX: XRO) had a strong FY26, with operating revenue up 31% to NZ$2.75B and free cash flow reaching NZ$554M.

But the more interesting story may be what comes next.

📈 US revenue growth accelerated, with 110,000 new customers added.
💳 Melio is expanding Xero’s payments ecosystem.
🤖 Around 500,000 customers had adopted newer generative-AI features by March 2026.
🚀 FY27 guidance points to NZ$3.62–3.73B in operating revenue.

Xero is increasingly positioning itself as more than accounting software, aiming to become an AI-powered financial platform for small businesses.

What do you think matters more for Xero’s next phase: US expansion, payments, or AI?

3 ASX Gold Miners, 3 Very Different Stories

3 ASX Gold Miners, 3 Very Different Stories

Gold has been having plenty of attention lately, but the more interesting question is: which Australian miners are actually turning that environment into growth?

I came across three FY26 updates that caught my attention.

Genesis Minerals (ASX: GMD) — production reached a record 285,402oz, while Tower Hill and Bruno-Lewis continue to progress.

Evolution Mining (ASX: EVN) — a much larger operation, combining 715koz of gold + 66kt of copper with a $1.35bn net cash position.

Ramelius Resources (ASX: RMS) — quarterly production jumped 40% QoQ to 53,466oz, helped by the ramp-up of Never Never.

Three companies.
Three different growth stories.
One sector.

If you follow ASX gold miners, which story interests you most going into FY27, and what are you watching for?
