An App Store loan app allegedly morphed my friend’s face and blackmailed him using his contacts.
One of my gym friends recently became a victim of an instant loan app that looked completely legitimate — and the scary part is that it was even available on the iPhone App Store, which most people naturally assume is safe and strictly verified.
Everything seemed normal in the beginning:
quick approval,
instant money,
minimal verification.
Because it was on the App Store, nobody around him even suspected it could turn dangerous.
Then repayment got delayed.
That’s when the harassment started.
The app had access to his contacts and personal data. Soon he started getting nonstop calls, threats, and blackmail. Then came the worst part — they allegedly morphed his face onto inappropriate images and threatened to send them to everyone in his contact list.
I’ve heard stories online before, but seeing someone panic in real life because strangers were threatening to humiliate him digitally was honestly disturbing.
What shocked me most was how fearless they sounded. When he mentioned police and cybercrime complaints, they barely reacted.
That made me wonder.
How many people are silently going through this right now?
What’s even more concerning is that many people believe iPhone App Store apps are automatically trustworthy because of Apple’s security and review systems. But incidents like this show that being listed on an official app store doesn’t always guarantee safety.
