Relinking Issue Premiere 2026 Follow Up

Posted a week or so ago about the Relinking Issue it seems Premiere 26 is experiencing lately. Sounds like its a widespread issue people are facing. I updated to the 26.2.2 version, as expected the issue wasn't fixed. I had to recreate my project in Premiere Pro 25.0 (cannot downgrade a 26 project to 25.) Pain because I do "SELECTS": have a project where I drop all my footage from an event to a timeline, then cut the clips I won't use and save the ones I will in the timeline, then import that sequence into the project I'm working on and voila I don't have to pawn through 300 clips instead I see what are my best. Beats having to double click in the folder on 300 clips hoping I eventually find the right one.

Unable to downgrade meant I had to recreate 25 or so selects timelines, which were about 200 clips each.

Here's the specs Im working with in Premiere 26 where i'm having issues: I'm working on a project that contains 5.6 TB of footage to choose through. My drive is a WD 18TB Desk Top Drive. I'm on a MacBook Pro M2 Pro Chip.

General census has been a new M5 Max Laptop won't help the relinking speed (it'll speed up export times but maybe that's it.) If a better drive could fix it, what drive is best/recommended? OR any tips for making Premiere 26 faster?

There's definitely a bug in Premiere 26. Once I remade my project in PP25, relinking moved insanely faster, didn't require I relink media every single project reopen (still some lag but I can at least access clips and their audio immediately.) Anything to avoid having to wait a day for everything to relink before I can even begin to edit?

Premiere Pro 2026 Relinking Issue (Can an M5 Max Macbook be a solution?)

Every time I reopen a project it takes hours to "Relink Media" and "Prepare Audio" (I need to leave the computer and drive on and open to the project overnight to relink all, then leave it on for days till I finish the project to avoid repeating the process), I tried the site to downgrade to Premiere Pro 2025, but every time I open it says "Project is Damaged" or something like that. Im operating on a MacBook M2 Pro, the project is all 4K S-Log Footage. Is it Premiere Pro 2026 being difficult or would an upgrade to the MacBook M5 Max make a difference? If its a Premiere 2026 issue I wanna avoid spending $3.6K unnecessarily
