2024 Volvo XC90 T8 strange A/C noise from under the hood — compressor or fan?
Hi everyone,
I have a 2024 Volvo XC90 T8 with about 12,500 miles on it.
I recently noticed a strange noise when the air conditioning is turned on. The sound comes from under the hood and is almost not noticeable inside the cabin. It seems to be coming from the area around the A/C compressor or the cooling fan, but to me it sounds closer to the compressor side. I can’t tell exactly.
The A/C itself works normally — it cools well, the cabin temperature changes as expected, and there are no warning messages or errors.
The main thing I noticed is that when I turn the A/C off, the noise does not stop immediately. It slowly fades away and then disappears.
The car had a full service in December 2025. Everything was checked, the filters were replaced, and the A/C system was serviced according to the maintenance protocol. I was told everything was normal.
Has anyone had a similar situation with a Volvo XC90 T8 or another Volvo plug-in hybrid? Could this sound be coming from the A/C compressor, the cooling fan, or something else in the air conditioning system?
I uploaded a video with the sound. Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated.
