I'm putting this '79 242GT back on the road after it sat in a barn for 10 years.

I found this Canadian (Southern Ontario) 1979 242GT about 30 minutes from me. The owner had it in a barn where a few racoons and maybe a skunk called it home for a number of years. So the interior was pretty dirty, but not destroyed. Unfortunately it was removed from the barn before I saw it, since someone looked at it before me.

I made a deal with the guy that also included 2 140s that I didn't want/need(my friend took them) and removed all three cars from the properties.

I'm doing a series on YouTube if you want to check it out. There aren't too many of these left in Canada, especially original Ontario cars! It will be a driver, not a full restoration, fixing holes in the body, keeping it mostly stock, rubber bushings, all new suspension/brake, its getting a modern B230FT I had rebuilt years ago, and probably megasquirt to just get it going(easier than running LH 2.4 harness or something).

2020 V90 CC

Oil question. I always do my own oil changes myself every 5k miles. We got the car a couple years ago at 60k miles. I always use 0 20 as specified. I would out of town a lot and my girl needed an oil change for an unexpected trip. I looked up a local “euro” shop with good reviews. She went in and got it done then send me a copy of the invoice. They put 5w 40 synthetic in it. When asked they said that’s what they always use for this car. I’m not happy about it and won’t be going back. Will this really damage the engine? She doesn’t drive too much and I’ll be home in a few weeks. Plan to change it back asap but wondering if I should have it done before.

TIA

V60 question

I have a small dent on this outer trim at the bottom of the doors. I want to fix it because when I go through the car wash pieces of the washer gets stuck and leaves behind torn pieces of the washer is left on my car trim. Any idea of the name of this part and approximately the cost in the US

Flying S60!

Had my ‘21 S60 up on jack stands in my garage yesterday to replace the stock rear sway bar with one from KCDesign.

Fairly simple job though given the clearance to the ground is limited versus a lift (for angling the bar), removing the stock bar was a pain (had to loosen the muffler and drop it a few inches).

This is perhaps the single largest “bang for buck” mod I have done. A lot has focused on interior and those are nice, but not highest value per dollar.

Front end feels incredibly planted going through turns, noticeably less body roll (even on my 80K mile struts), and generally, everything feels like it follows my steering input more accurately.

Next up: I’m building a ground up ambient lighting upgrade (I don’t like the “club like” nature of the kits out there, so I’m building my own—just want an extension of the soft warm existing lighting in more places and with a modern flare (e.g., following the channel under the wood trim on the dash).

Further down the line… intercooler and some other drivetrain!

My Audi-driving colleague finally understood the Volvo thing

I carpool with a colleague who’s in his mid-30s. He’s Albanian, drives an Audi Quattro, and is very proud of it. He loves driving fast, and he’s always been very confident about how quick his car is.

We normally just take turns driving. One day he drives his Audi and I’m the passenger, the next day I drive my V60 T8 and he’s the passenger. That’s just how we’ve always done it.

I’ve told him more than once that driving a Volvo does something to you. He never really understood what I meant.

My V60 T8 actually has a few more horsepower than his Audi, but that’s not really the point. It’s the feeling of knowing the power is there without feeling the need to use it. You can just cruise along quietly, comfortably and ridiculously relaxed. No drama, no engine noise, no need to prove anything.

Then one day, I asked him if he wanted to drive The Volvo.

We had barely been on the road for a few minutes when he looked over at me. He had this almost glassy look in his eyes and said:

“Now I understand what you mean.”

The fast Audi guy finally understood.

You don’t have to drive fast just because you can.

Looking for aftermarket rims inspiration

Hi everyone,

I'm a proud new owner of a 2022 V90, T8 recharge. I love it so far!
The only thing I was looking to change are the rims. The ones it came with are, in my opinion of course, quite bland compared to other factory options.

If you have a V60 or v90, I would love to see what rims you've put on your car. Feel free to share pictures of your rides, I'm more than interested to see your taste and maybe get some inspiration.

So far, I was looking at Barracuda Razzer rims, that I saw on this build.

Volvo ACC appreciation

I drive lots of different cars at work, but we are located in Sweden so naturally many of them are Volvo.

We also have all the other big european brands and I like them all in different ways.

But one thing Volvo is far ahead of any other manufacturer is the ACC and Pilot Assist. In a Volvo it’s the first thing I turn on and it makes the trip so comfortable. In a VW or Mercedes for instanc, the feeling is so clunky that I usually turn it off.

Right now I have a VW ID.4 but after driving a Volvo for 4 hours during work today, I’m confident my next will be Volvo. The ACC is that good imo.

Faulty CEM?

Is this an absolute horrible purchase for $1500?
I’ve looked into xemodex for the replacement, my boyfriend is used to working on things like Hondas and Subarus so he’s weary regarding this fix.
Are there other issues I should be looking into?

Thinking of making a switch from Audi to Volvo (XC60 ?)

First off no I'm not Albanian (lol) I've been driving an Audi S5 Sportback for around the last 6 years, love the car but hate what Audi is doing with their newer cars plus I've been wanting to switch to an SUV as I'm getting older. Currently we are a family of 3 with 2 dogs.

I don't want something that is a complete bore to drive, I came across the XC60 T8 which seems like it might fit what I'm looking for. Not too big of an SUV, plus the plug-in hybrid getting up to 455 HP sounds pretty sweet. I have a relatively short commute of around 25 miles round-trip.

Is there any advice people can give regarding the XC60 T8 they wish they knew before getting one? I honestly don't know that much about Volvo regarding the different trim's and such. Which options they recommend etc.

Looks like my local dealer is having some pretty good discounts right tnow

Best value Volvo on the used market?

Looking to replace my 2006 xc90. I love the car and the 3rd row, but have begun to recently need repairs quite often. With a 15k budget would be some options I could look for? Was looking at Toyota/subaru but value Volvos safety. Family of 4, located in nyc
