"Application for Registration of Birth" in Nova Scotia, Under the Vital Statistics Act, Chap. 20, R.S. 1923

Due to the recent announcements, I (G2) want to make sure by CIT 0001 and CIT 00014 are accurate as possible before sending everything in.

My grandmother was born in Nova Scotia in 1902. I have been unable to get a birth certificate for her. The Nova Scotia Archives of Births, Marriages and Deaths sent me my grandmother mother's "Application for Registration of Birth" of my grandmother's birth.

My grandmother's mother filed this "Application for Registration of Birth" in 1930.

Would this be accepted by IRCC? The copy is black and white, but the logo for NS Archives is blue, plus I can feel an invisible bumpy seal, so I will send a color copy per IRCC's instructions.

Closed adoption, and biological grandmother Canadian. My birth certificate shows adopted parents names -- how to get around this? Have bio grandmother's "proof of birth" from 1902 from Nova Scotia archives and bio mother's birth certificate.

I was adopted in California which seals all adoptions. I would like to apply for Citizenship by Descent. I found my biological family through DNA.

My biological mother is deceased, so I sadly never got to meet her. Her remaining family has welcomed me with open arms. My biological maternal grandmother (deceased) was born and raised in Nova Scotia and emigrated to Boston when she was 22. My bio aunt and uncles are all deceased -- only some of my bio first cousins are still alive. I believe this is the best way to apply for Citizenship by Descent.

I have my biological grandmother's "proof of birth" sent to me from Nova Scotia -- It is not a birth certificate though -- she was born in 1902 so maybe that is why?

I also have my biological mother's birth certificate from Boston, showing her parents.

My birth certificate shows only my adopted parents' names. How do I get around this? California seals all original birth certificates.

  • Do I need to go to court to try to get it unsealed? It's not likely court would allow it to be unsealed.
  • Do I send a copy of the adoption paperwork proving I was adopted? Paperwork does not name my biological mother.

Has anyone been successful with sending copies of adoption paperwork?

Would Canada accept the "proof of birth" from Nova Scotia?

Absolutely Last Resort Option -- My biological father is also deceased, and I do not want contact with this side as I am a product of date rape. He was born in Newfoundland in 1933 before NL became part of Canada on March 31, 1949. His family emigrated to the USA when he was a teen. I might or might not use this as a last resort option. Is he a citizen of the UK or Canada?

Thank you for your time and help.
