kansasreflector.comMayor Spencer Duncan's Announcement on the Special Governing Body session on Data Centers (08/19/2026 at 5:00 PM)
"The announcement of a special Governing Body work session regarding data centers has understandably raised questions in the community. I want to explain the purpose of this meeting, the City’s role, and the additional steps we are taking.
The data center currently being discussed is proposed for property in unincorporated Shawnee County, outside the Topeka city limits. Because of that location, Shawnee County — not the City of Topeka — has land-use and zoning authority over whether the project may be constructed at that site.
That does not mean the project is irrelevant to Topeka. A development of this size would affect our broader community, infrastructure, utilities, environment, and economy. It is therefore important that the Governing Body engage in the discussion, obtain information and hear directly from the organizations involved."
This Referendum has always been about abortion (From 09.23.2022) - Vote no to keep the current Judicial system. Vote yes to change to elections for judges.
"Kobach lays out plan to remove abortion rights in Kansas after failed amendment" by Chance Swaim and Katie Bernard; Updated September 23, 2022 6:53 PM
>Kobach, former Kansas Secretary of State, is calling on the GOP-dominated Legislature to put forward another ballot question that would amend the state’s constitution. This time, it would not address abortion rights directly. Instead, it would ask voters whether Kansas Supreme Court justices should be selected by direct election.
>The change, Kobach said, would clear a path for the state to “slowly and quietly” place anti-abortion judges on the state’s high court with the ultimate goal of overturning the Kansas Supreme Court’s 2019 Hodes decision that found the state constitution includes the right to an abortion.
>Kobach said the Hodes decision threw “a huge wrench into the works” of the anti-abortion movement in Kansas. “Now, there are two ways to deal with that,” Kobach said. “There are two paths. One is to come in with a state constitutional amendment that corrects the decision. That’s what we just tried to do, and it didn’t work out. But there’s another path.”

kansasreflector.com2026 Election Research Guide- Candidates, Referendums, donations, election information, polling sites,
I've seen a lot of people asking for this information, so I'm stickying it so more people can find it.
Here are some helpful websites to research candidates, donations, election information, websites, polling locations, etc.:
| Website Link | Website Information |
|---|---|
| www.ballotpedia.org | Gives candidates' bio, current/past elections, opponents, campaign themes, finance summary (past elections), website themes, overviews, etc. |
| www.opensecrets.org | Covers past elections and donors, but can be useful for seeing past issues for current candidates |
| www.commoncause.org/find-your-representative | Find your districts' candidates with your address |
| www.pluralpolicy.com/open | find your current legislators |
| www.vote411.org/kansas | election/voting information, deadlines, polling place, upcoming debates, district races built around your address. Shows each candidate by race and party affiliation (Dem/GOP/All candidates for political office, etc). Vote411 is run by the League of Women Voters, so it's super ultra legit. |
| www.bluevoterguide.org/state/kansas | Lists each candidate, provides official endorsements, recommendations, positions, etc. |
| www.sos.ks.gov/elections/county_election_officers.aspx | Official List of Kansas Secretary of State County Election Offices |
| www.fec.gov/data/elections/?cycle=2026&state=KS | Lists Finance Campaign Data on the Federal Election Commission website. Gives information on reviews, donations, loans, individual/party contributions, disbursements, PACs, statistics, disclosure reports, etc. |
Many Kansas county party offices also provide information for their own candidates and local referendums.
One trick is that groups like Americans for Prosperity and similar rightwing organizations will publish their own "scorecards" for each candidate along with their positions and leanings. Generally, the higher the score, the more conservative they tend to be. The lower the score, the more liberal.
Also many candidates have youtube videos and shorts floating around as well - Townhalls, speeches, quick little monologues, discussion points, ads, etc. That can also be helpful in hearing what they say directly.
Reminder: July 15 - First day of advance voting for the August 4, 2024 Primary Election. Advance ballots by mail are transmitted. In-person advance voting may begin. Check with your county election office for specific times and locations.
