The movie Forgotten Island makes 1990s Philippines seem cool & energetic. How was it really?
Obviously Forgotten Island is a Hollywood movie, but from just trailers and pre-release clips there were a lot of aspects of Filipino culture represented. Those who have seen the whole movie, what part of the culture was depicted that you genuinely did not expect to see? Can be something well-known, or something niche. What matters is that it made you think "I can't believe they represented this!" (please censor spoilers if you discuss them)

The movie Forgotten Island recently came out - it's an adventure movie about two about-to-be-separated friends getting stranded on a magical island, Nakali. On top of possibly losing their memories as they try to escape, the island is filled with all sorts of creatures from Filipino legends e.g. manananggaal, sarimanok, tiyanak, kataw. This movie got me interested in learning about the country's mythology and I'd like to know which being from it disturbs you the most (not limited to just creatures from the movie).
To me, many of them are the same: bunch of non-famous actors, have a monster/serial killer, kill them off one by one, have the "final girl" survive. I can respect a horror movie if it does something different, but I don't get people obsessing over them.
