I’m considering buying this 2011 Golf Mk6 1.2 TSI 86 hp (63 kW), 5-speed manual with 69,980 km.
The owner mentioned an unusual noise on startup. The first video is from a completely cold start. The noise was quite noticeable for around 10–15 seconds and gradually got quieter.
I then drove the car for a short distance, switched it off for about a minute and started it again. The second video is from that restart. The noise is much less noticeable, but it still doesn’t sound completely right to me.
The car otherwise seems to run and drive fine.
Anyone familiar with these engines recognise the sound? Timing chain/tensioner, water pump, or something else?
