Golf vw or polo
What’s the best golf vw to buy between 15-20k? Or is the polo better ? I just want something semi reliable and nice to drive I don’t care too much about upgrades and specs

PVC, mass airflow sensor, seafoam clean, new spark, plugs, and injector clean have all been done
I’m considering buying this 2011 Golf Mk6 1.2 TSI 86 hp (63 kW), 5-speed manual with 69,980 km.
The owner mentioned an unusual noise on startup. The first video is from a completely cold start. The noise was quite noticeable for around 10–15 seconds and gradually got quieter.
I then drove the car for a short distance, switched it off for about a minute and started it again. The second video is from that restart. The noise is much less noticeable, but it still doesn’t sound completely right to me.
The car otherwise seems to run and drive fine.
Anyone familiar with these engines recognise the sound? Timing chain/tensioner, water pump, or something else?
Thanks!
Hi all,
I've got such a hankering for a Mk4, but I'm not sure if it's a wise purchase. Even though this one has clearly been looked after (single owner) I'm still concerned about the reliability of a 23y/o car, and would want to spend money updating it a little straight away, mostly with a new stereo with USB. Think I'd also want lowering springs, as people say the ride is very rolly (and I like the lowered look).
I'm coming from a 2016 Corsa 1.4L (1st car), and even though people don't speak highly of the 1.6N/A, it does 0-60 five(!) seconds quicker than my Corsa. I'm worried that the ride & gearbox will feel outdated compared to what I'm used to. I'm also a little worried that I've been spoiled by the tech in my car like cruise control; heated windscreen, steering wheel & seats, all of which I'd lose.
The Golf is quite far from me, so it'd be a massive shame to make the journey and then walk away if it's not right. But I also feel like *if* I *do* want a Mk4, the opportunity to pick one up in condition this good should not be slept on.
Hello everyone, long story short, my 2014 golf 7 rline 1.4 tsi has been wrecked on the parking lot, i am taking the bumper off tomorrow to look for inside damage for the insurance, any tips for what i should look for when i take off bumper, i am not much into mechanics but i know the basics, just asking for help from someone who has more experience, thanks :-)

Hello all. Last November I bought a 2016 Golf SE TSI 1.8T with only 45,000 miles from Audi Beverly Hills. It’s a beautiful car, the previous owner kept it in great condition, and it came with a full service history through Volkswagen. This is my first attempt at owning something not Japanese and I’ve absolutely loved driving it for the last 9 months, but it’s starting to act a bit strange on me.
Three times now I’ve had the EPC light come on under very similar conditions. Each time, the engine was still relatively cold and I was taking off from a stop somewhat aggressively. It almost feels like traction control is kicking in, the car briefly loses power and there may be a slight shudder. As soon as I let off the gas and get back on it, the car drives normally again, although the EPC light stays on solid.
If I pull over, shut the car off, and restart it, the EPC light goes away and the car drives completely normally again.
I have OBDeleven and I got the recurring codes of P03A500 (Cylinder 2 Pressure Too High), P03AF00 (Cylinder 3 Pressure Too High), and P130A00 (Hide Cylinder). Interestingly, the same two cylinders keep coming up.
Last night, however, something different happened. I got in after work and started the car, and it immediately went into limp mode and the EPC light came on again. I did not drive it. I shut the car off and restarted it, and the warning disappeared.
OBDeleven showed a new P00B700 (Engine Coolant Flow Low/Performance) fault. My coolant level is right where it should be and the temperature gauge has always been normal. There is no record of the water pump ever being replaced so I’m most likely on the original still.
I’ve also noticed that the car sometimes has a slower-than-normal crank when starting, and OBDeleven has previously shown random stored faults for things like the windows and TPMS that never triggered any warning on the dash. The optimistic side of me wonders if a weak battery/low voltage could be contributing to some of these weird faults?
I’m planning on taking it to a VW dealer for proper diagnosis first because I also found a VW TSB that appears to address the P03A5/P03AF codes on the 1.8T that involves an ECM flash before replacing anything so id like to try that. I’m curious whether anyone with a similar Golf has experienced this or knows what could be causing it.
Any insight would be appreciated.
After so many year watching this car always on the streets here and there with selected people and also online.
Finally got this beauty. It is 169k mileage Golf R-Line 2021 Engine 1.5 TSI Manual transmission 6 speed.
Only 1 owner and got a OBDEleven 3 recently also to tweak some 1 click apps with it. Any tips and recommendations that can i keep in mind guys? I want to hear from experienced drivers from these cars or any mechanics around here which parts to keep checking on and maybe clean here and there. I just
love this car.
In the petition of a comment before i want to put more photos to give context and also model viewing also.
Hello everyone!
Just bought this 1996, 2 door, Golf mk3 Bon Jovi edition with the 1.8 AAM 75hp engine to register it as a historic vehicle.
It used to drink a lot of fuel and idle rough when cold, but the idle is fine now after changing the spark plugs' cables. The fuel consumption on the other hand... It goes 50km on half a tank, so it does about 20-25L/100km. I've driven more economical V8s than this... From what I heard it should use about 9-10L/100km in the city.
I have been doing some research, so I checked the intake air temperature sensor(it is good), the coolant sensor is good since I can see the correct temperature on the dash and tge thermostat is good because the engine's temperature is staying right in the middle of tge dial. I have a Vag-Com interface on the way, ordered it a few days ago.
Thanks everyone in advance!
Mijn onderhoudsbeurt staat gepland over ruim 2 weken.
6 speed GTI SE PP. Really fun so far! Anything I should worry about or do? It’s at 107k miles and I’m already getting a metal oil pan.
Hey! I've had my golf SV mk7 for around a month now. Been loving it, drives nice and smooth and feels solid!
One question I can't seem to find an answer to though , it's got auto stop/start which I've never had before but when it cuts out the power steering goes as well.
I've only noticed it really because I was coming to a roundabout, slowed up to a stop but then immediately went to pull away right as the stop/start cut out, for a second the steering went. I noticed it today as well in traffic, it's fine once the engine is back on.
Is this normal for the stop/start system? Could my battery or alternator be on its way out?
I don't want to call the garage if this is normal behaviour.
Got a pretty bad sagging headliner that’s fixing to get replaced. I’m looking to do it myself. Anyone know a good site to purchase the fabric online? And does anyone know what color fabric this is?
This is for a 2012 Mk6 Golf (base model)
My 2018 golf R has 72,000 km and I’m quoted $2400canadian for the three services at a euro shop in Kelowna BC i’m just wondering if this seems a little high seems kinda high to me do you think changing differential fluid is even needed at this mileage? Also, what are some prices you guys paid and where did you take them?
I took my 2013 Mark 6 Golf to a nearby garage for oil/filter, broken turn signal, and broken driver-side power window (sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn’t). This garage mostly works on German cars, is about 9 miles from my house, and I mostly trust them. The nearest VW Dealer is about 45 miles away and they’re bad to try upsell on maintenance.
I drove the car home last night then noticed the power window wasn’t working correctly. It kept freezing on the way down and I had to push the button over and over to get the window to go down.
I drove back to the garage this morning, they said they’d look at it. I tried the power window in the parking lot and it was barely working. They called me later and said it was working. When I picked it up, the power window was working fine. I asked what was wrong and what did they do. They said they didn’t do anything, that they drove it into the garage and it worked fine the first time they tried it.
Huh. I suspect they fixed it and didn’t want to admit they’d screwed up the job the first time. Maybe not, maybe it was a weird problem that fixed itself. Seems kind of crazy.
Hey, I have my car back and that’s a good thing.
Hi all,
I have a 10 year old VW Golf R Estate with 131,000 miles on the clock.
I’m very good with maintaining minor and major services each year and have generally had little repairs apart from generally wear and tear and the odd pothole!
That is up until now.
I’ll be in low revs and the car intermittently loses power - foot on pedal and the power disappears for a second or then “catches” itself again, this might happen a few times as the car gets up to speed and then it doesn’t happen at a steady motorway speed.
If I were to put my foot down at do it over and over and likely end up with the EPC light coming on. But restart the car and the EPC light goes off.
If I change the drive setting from normal to sport, it performs better, almost like the engine is breathing better.
Any ideas? Just trying to get a heads up before I go to a garage.
Thanks
Loved the r32 expensive on fuel Gti was good all rounder had the thermostat issue sold it ,modded a mk4 tdi 130 now in the mk8 Rline also had a mk5 gti added in thread and a scirocco
This is the first car I’ve ever bought and I’m very happy with it as a daily driver. However, I have a friend who has a GTI and he’s done all kinds of stuff to it (Stage 1 tune, big wheels, new rsb, coil overs, etc.). He said that I should do some work on my car and come to the meets and stuff that he goes to. I think it would be really fun to make this car look badass and maybe a little faster.
What do you guys think, should I go for it? Would it be worth it? This may be a little silly but I worry that people will think it’s lame that I did all this to a TSI instead of just going for a GTI.
