SPLATTERPUNK AUTHOR AND READER! I'm here to ask if you would like to see more long form series in the genre or if you think it lends itself more to One-Off Novels and Novellas!

I'm currently five books into my splatterpunk/sci-fi horror series and I'm wondering why there are so few (series) in Splatterpunk. I have several Novellas sitting in my back pocket, but my passion is currently in my series. I wonder if the amount of investment a series asks of readers is a lot in this particular horror space. Would you prefer to see more long form content in the Splatterpunk space or do you think the brevity of a one-off novel/novella is more fitting to the goals of Splatterpunk or horror in general? Maybe there's a sweet spot?

Indie Splatterpunk Author Here! Asking one simple question, Do you prefer a detailed list of trigger warnings provided by the author or do you prefer to go in raw?

Personally I prefer to put a general warning at most, and as a reader I also prefer to go in raw/blind. I have changed my opinion in this regard within the last year! I've come to believe challenging myself with things I'm not comfortable with, is a core part of the experience reading splatterpunk and EH, personally. I did not enjoy Gone to See The River Man by Kristopher Triana on my first read through, and upon a subsequent reread it's become a favorite of mine.

If something genuinely upsets me, I tend to give the author significantly more credit. I have not read The sequel btw! I am going to read Full Brutal and They all died Screaming soon in regards to Triana's work. I will respond to as many comments as I can! I tend to read most books twice if they elicited a visceral reaction from me or if I've changed significantly as a human being.

Edit: Thank you everyone for responding! I'll take a lot of these into consideration over the next few days! I think I've heard just about every argument, I could personally fathom, both concisely put and passionately put. This has been a great bit of discussion. I will continue to put my general warnings with a bit more specific information to clarify nothing is off the table.

Why do you read Extreme Horror or Splatterpunk?

I'm an Author who leans more towards the cerebral side of the genre, I'm moreso inspired by the older splatterpunk regime, as well as lots of darker sci-fi books. I'm a big ol'nerd and I'd say my current series sits firmly as Splatterpunk/Sci-fi not necessarily extreme horror. I've picked up work on the next entry finally, while managing and catching up on the business side of things. I'm really curious why y'all read the genre and what keeps drawing you back to it? I'll try to respond to these the best I can. I'm mostly feeding my own dorky curiosity :) - Artisan

Edit: Thank you guys for so many in depth responses! I was definitely feeling like my own work wasn't really what people wanted anymore 😅. It was getting a little depressing, but obviously we all get our creative funks! It's really nice to be reminded that many are still looking for the kind of stories I'm committed to telling. Unnecessary edit, but completely necessary thank you, I'll continue responding, but it may take me a few hours!
