Why does Satara produce so many athletes?

India has been doing well at the 2026 Asian Games, and something that caught my attention is the number of athletes from Satara district contributing to India’s medal tally.
Out of India’s 9 gold medals so far, almost 3 have come from Satara athletes, with all of Maharashtra’s individual gold medals coming from Satara!
Satara’s Sahil Jadhav has already won two gold medals in archery. There are also two athletes from Satara in the Indian women’s hockey team, who have reached the final against China and are surely going for a gold or a silver medal face off, while the women’s kabaddi team has won gold again, with their former captain also being from Satara.
Over the last few years, I’ve noticed athletes from Satara regularly appearing in archery, athletics, hockey, shooting, kabaddi and other sports at national and international competitions and winning medals.
Even at these Asian Games, there seem to be around 4–5 athletes from Satara, with a surprisingly high medal conversion rate of more than 90%
what is it about places like Satara, Kolhapur, or states like Haryana that seems to produce so many successful athletes?
Why can’t other districts like Latur,Beed,Jalgaon or Wardha have such sports culture the way it is here in Satara and produce more medals for the nation

What are your views on Necklace road infrastructure Karad

Recently, PWD announced and sanctioned the ₹700 crore Karad Necklace Road Project, one of the biggest road infrastructure projects in Satara district.

At the same time, several roads in Satara city are being concretized, with the PWD Minister stating that major roads in both Satara and Karad will be converted into concrete roads.

With the Karad Municipal Council, MLA and PWD department pushing this ambitious Necklace Road project, will it benefit the city?

Don’t sell your ancestral land in Konkan easily.

To everyone in Maharashtra and Goa,
Think before

If you have ancestral land in Konkan, especially in Maharashtra, think twice before selling it.

Konkan is seeing growing investment around oil refineries, ports, shipping, power projects and other major infrastructure. The region could look very different in the coming years.

Development is necessary, but preserving our ancestral land matters too. Some of India’s biggest industrial groups (no need to name them as we obviously know)are already keeping an eye on the region everyone remembers the Nanar refinery controversy.

Once ancestral land is gone, it’s gone.

Difference between Satari Dialect (Satara–Karad) vs. Kolhapuri Dialect (Kolhapur & Southern Sangli)

People from outside Western Maharashtra can sometimes find the Satari and Kolhapuri accents difficult to distinguish. They may sound quite similar, since both belong to the Deshi Marathi dialect group.
Here are some differences I’ve noticed between the two:
Satari Dialect
One noticeable feature of Satari dialect is the frequent use of “ra” in casual conversation.
Eg :
Kay ra?
Kuthai ra?
Thamb ki ra?
Hoe ki ra?
Satari dialect also uses “yaa” endings more frequently
Eg-:
Jatoyaa
Kartoyaa
Khatuyaa
Jevtuyaa

Kolhapuri Dialect
In Kolhapuri, speakers including women in casual speech often use masculine grammatical forms more freely.
The dialect also tends to shorten words and uses “loy” endings more frequently
Eg:
Karyloy
Jevayloy
Sangayloy

Kolhapuri speech also generally has a stronger nasal twang and is often perceived as being spoken at a faster pace.

Both dialects preserve traditional respectful forms used when addressing elders and others deserving of respect, such as

Hyasni / Hyanchasni
Tyasni / Tyanchasni

These expressions reflect the region’s historical and social traditions. Satara and Kolhapur were both Maratha princely states, where respectful forms of speech were traditionally used when addressing elders and people of higher status.

A Common Misconception About Konkani Identity in Maharashtra

Assuming that everyone who speaks Konkani only belongs to one uniform community can be misleading. People also sometimes exclude communities from the Maharashtra Konkan belt simply because many of them no longer speak Konkani like myself or their older local dialects.
For our communities such as Konkanastha Kshatriya Marathas/Chitpavans Brahmins, Karhades,Gomantak Marathas, and the CKP many older local speech varieties gradually shifted towards Marathi over generations. Since Marathi and Konkani are closely related Indo-Aryan languages from the same Southern Indo-Aryan branch, this linguistic shift and assimilation into Marathi happened relatively easily.

In the southern states, Konkani remained more distinct among many communities because it developed alongside predominantly Dravidian languages such as Kannada and Malayalam, rather than another closely related Indo-Aryan language.
So, speaking Konkani today doesn’t necessarily define someone’s ancestry, and not speaking Konkani doesn’t mean a community has no historical connection to Konkani.

Wait what??? Marathi Konkanis🙄

How can she say that so bluntly? Yes, the Marathas fought numerous wars against the British, Mughals, Afghans, Tughlaqs, and Portuguese, but I still find that completely irrelevant to the point.

Satara seriously needs an FM station

Satara was more of a pensioners paradise until around 2016, with a population much less. But the city has grown a lot since then and its population has almost doubled in the last decade.

Satara really needs a proper FM radio station now. Even Jalgaon, Sangli and Solapur have stations like Big FM and Radio City.

Why not Satara?

Hey guys, how can I approach our Hon. PWD Minister at Suruchi regarding an issue with road connectivity, along with a couple of personal concerns?

What are the Janta Darbar timings?

Scared a bit but I’ve heard he is very calm!
