When did patients start expecting free care between visits?

I am curious if anyone could share when this happened?

For patients who may be visiting this sub: it is less about the money and more about the time it takes from our lives when we have to address these messages in some capacity. The general expectation in medicine is that these messages get done “at some point” aka on your own time.

I think everyone should have a clearly written contract outlining job duties

We need to shift to a mindset that we are all independent contractors who contract our services to companies.

To often do employers feel that they can add greater responsibility and workload without a change in compensation. Because of this, I argue that we should all have contracts with defined terms. If the employer wants to add responsibilities then they can do it at the next contract negotiation.
