Ever read 100 Years of Solitude by Garbiel Garcia Marquez?

Great book.

Also it was surprising to find the lyrics for an entire Stereolab song in there.

The urban setting of the Wire

This might come off as a bit strange, but as someone who has a fetish for old working class neighbourhoods , I find the outdoor scenes of the Wire a feast for the eyes. The restaurants, the back alleys, the grit, the rowhouses.

Anyone else appreciate this?

As I said, it is probably a strange point of view.

Gus the Mynah Bird

A song that I've always liked, but has grown on me recently to the point where it is now one of my faves.

Firstly, I have to mention the newer version with the extended intro.... I just love it and even if it goes on for quite awhile it is still not long enough. It's one of those seemingly simple Lab musical ideas which just has this narcotic appeal to my mind and my emotions.

The song also features what I consider to be some of Mary's best backing vocals. Just haunting stuff.

It's hard to label this a pop song. The melodies are unconventional but yet memorable. I'd say they are even pretty which contrasts to the grim content of the lyrics. Is there some optimism in there somewhere?... the passion in which Laetitia sings some of the lyrics 'That takes apart what it took people years to build' perhaps suggest so.

The outro..... Now normally I would consider a series of sound effects to end a song to be a bit questionably but here it works - at least for me. We have a captivating sequences of sounds that somehow seem quasi melodic. They have that special Sound Dust magic. Like the intro to the song, it is repetitive, and I am no rush to hear it end.

And then there is the title itself. Gus the Mynah Bird. In the best Lab tradition, a title that is unrelated to anything.... and even brings a smile to my face.

Movie in which an attempt is made to bring fresh eggs to a remote town/camp

A couple of guys decide they will strike it rich by transporting a raft full of fresh eggs to a remote location where eggs are unavailable.

The movie for the most part deals with the difficulty of the journey... rapids... bears

They finally reach their destination and sell out in minutes. Cut to a woman cracking open an egg.... and finding it spoiled.

Any ideas?

Yes it happened. We got a new Stereolab album

It will always have a special place in my heart (and in my ears) not only because it is great music but also because I never thought it would actually happen.
