Spent an eternity to break open the batteries with two knives, the screw was damaged and didn't go out, just to find out that it rusted. Is there any way this is savable, or is it a lost cause?

Screw is damaged and I can't get it out, wanted to know if anyone has any tricks to get it open without damaging the batteries, but don't know which sub to post it in.
