Interesting tips for 867 start (survivor achievement)

Hi, so I attained both Seven Centuries with Saka Huns (interesting playthrough, see the thread) and now I am closing in on the 1066 to 1453 with HRE (also pretty nice), so I am looking for really interesting characters to play in 867. Since I have some more achievements to tick off, I will probably combine some, but hit me with your beloved Old Gods characters.

Multi-layered question - Chess with Death, Immortality, Diplomacy upgrade

Hi, so I have a multilayered Question in the field of Diplomacy.

I have all the datadisks and updates.

First - I know that if you end up having less then perfect education in a field, you can take the appropriate focus and through repeating behavior, you can upgrade the education (e.g., you can upgrade the Martial education by participating as commander in battles - not sure if you have to have War or Hunting focus or any focus). What is to be done by your character in order to upgrade Diplomacy and Learning education levels? I heard that Learning is able to be upgraded by Hermetic Society and participating in the debates.

Now for the Chess with Death event - I usually don't have luck with Genius heirs so I go for the Game Master trait so I have the best chance to win. If I win and have the Present from Death modifier on me (which is really nice since it instantly cures many diseases), does it block me from achieving Immortality? Or even does it block the chain to fire for me?

And finally for the Immortality - if you achieve it, it blocks the Chess with Death, right? It only seems logical to me, but I had some mixed results when searching.

I started not so long ago...

...and I am through to Season 7 by now.

So far, I can possibly do some rudimentary assesment of the characters:

Rookies (starting as rookies):

John Nolan - I like him very much, he is supposed to be a bit older than me, although I feel that he complicates his life a lot by indecisiveness especially in relationship. Otherwise, I like his "boy scout" persona so much and I saw why Rosalind tried to corrupt it.

Lucy Chen - I like her arc about her struggling against her parents railroading her. I absolutely despised her mother, loved her chemistry with Tamara and with John, I slightly disliked her >!hating John over him breaking up with her!<. I am so far in S7, so I am rooting for >!her and Tim getting back together.!<

Jackson West - I liked him, he was a good representation for all his facets of personality and all, the whole overarching presence of his father, his bravery and finally >!his tragic death at the hands of La Fiera!< - all were perfect

Aaron Thorsen - poifect for me. His background as a freed convict, his determination to succeed, his casual wealth thrown out at times. He was one of the most entertaining presences in the Rookieverse.

Celina Juarez - I am warming up to her, but somehow she tends to make an awkward screen presence for me at times. I disliked her at first, due to her overreliance on what she was selling as mysticism and esotericism, but when it turned out to be intuition, I warmed up to her. I kinda dislike her bashing on Nolan and siding so much with Bailey against him. It just rubs me wrong way with him being her TO.

Texas and Seth - mixed bag so far - I am still only on S7E6

Officers:

Tim Nolan - though I thoroughly hate his Tim Tests style and would stress the crap out of me, I kinda vibe with his grumpy cop persona, speaks to me on a visceral level. Like his chemistry with pretty much all his girlfriends and despite his originally giving off the vibe that he would be a racist or a gay basher, he tured out to be one of the most supportive fellas for all the people around

Angela Lopez - I adore her from day one. Fierce, driven, sassy, but not a Soapbox Sadie or OP Mary Sue, crosses class and ancestry barriers with Wesley and is very much a fresh air when she makes a detective and contrasts the uniforms a plain clothes.

Talia Bishop - absolute opposite of Angela. Disliked her from day one, I got all the wrong vibes from her - meddling (>!her working really overtime to break up John and Lucy, and not to mention her dating a cop afterwards !<), abrasive, not really supportive, secretive, and crowned with her >!lying about her brother!<. Her >!exit and replacement with Harper!< was the best to keep me at the show.

Nyla Harper - I disliked her even more at start but boy, is she a poster girl for character growth from her beginnings of abrasive loner who despised John, her risking lives and careers, through her getting back the trust of her family, through crossing the gap with James (? am not really sure what her second hubby's name is). She is now one of my favorite non-uniforms

Wade Grey - I was wary of his motives in ridiculing Nolan and being extra hard on him. Grew to extremely like him, to the point of having literal tears with his monologue when confronting >!Jackson's killer!<.

Lawbreakers (repeating presences):

Rosalind Dyer - PERFECT. She was the perfect evil counterpart of John. She tried so hard to corrupt him. I only regret they didn't lewd her for John harder, because she seemed to be the perfect vixen to try to pull that out.

Oscar Hutchinson - sociopathic jester, perfect when comic relief, I don't care for him when he's supposed to be serious

Jason whateverhisnamewas - I rooted for >!Malvado to make the perfect shot!<, enough said. Evil manipulative asshole.

Neutrals:

Bailey Nune - I can't seem to like her consistently. I think the writers made her a bit of disservice at presenting her too superwomen - Reserve, firefighter, gazillion hobbies, perfect, pretty, funny...but it kinda looks too perfect and she even gets Celina to team up with her on John. Crowning moment of that his so far for me the treatment of John after >!he confronts her over Malvado.!<

Tamara - I was very sad over her departure, I liked her story a whole lot

S7E6 The Gala

OK, I cannot stress this enough, I LOVE Rookie and normally I don't dislike Bailey (even though I kinda dislike that OP Mary Sue persona that they bestowed upon her).

But boy do I absolutely HATE her reaction to John confronting her with her handling of Malvado.

You decided to cooperate with a known extremely violent hitman, you willingly threw your husband in jeopardy of his career and livelihood, and you have the NERVE to bark at him because he called you out on it? Boy, do I hope she comes to senses by the end of the episode (sorry, I was so steamed about her audacity that I didn't even finish the episode yet).

Delicate didn't catch my fancy yet and I am 4 in.

So I am 4 episodes in and so far I don't know what the hell am I supposed to cling on.

So far none of the main characters is likeable, the pace is abysmal and feels like dragging a cupboard uphill, and the cult, even if I suspect that won't be the case, just seems like a cheap revamp of the Satanists from Apocalypse.

Oddly enough, I don't hate Kim Kardashian so far, but that might be because she is virtually unknown (or at least, her mannerisms are) in CZ, therefore I feel she isn't acting terribly.
