Question about Mold Cleanup in Crawlspace
I was wondering about mold cleanup / remediation in crawlspaces.
If there is a crawlspace that has a dirt floor and there are concerns about mold, what is the best / correct sequence for cleaning and encapsulating the space?
And by encapsulation, I mean putting down plastic that is sealed to the posts and walls so that vapor / air from the dirt floor can't enter the space.
It seems like if the encapsulation is done first, then it seals out anything on the walls or in the dirt, but it would mean that when the joists and other surfaces are being cleaned, that the plastic for the encapsulation then also has to be cleaned, which adds to the cleaning job (and I'm not sure how well those plastics hold up to cleaners).
On the other hand, if the joists are cleaned first, it would seem like anything that is in the soil potentially gets stirred up as the encapsulation is being installed. Or is there a way to 'clean' the soil or remove a top layer to reduce the kick-up of particles after cleaning?
Neither way seems ideal.
