Got my first bird this morning!

This was my first season and my first bird! I’ve been learning mostly on my own but I got a lot of tips and advice from people on this sub so I wanted to give my thanks!

I spent almost two weeks in the woods talking to this tom but never getting a shot at him. Today I finally made it happen. I thought I would jump and cheer but instead I cried for the first time in many years. I am incredibly grateful to this bird and to everyone that helped me along the way.

I need some newbie advice. How do I get the birds to commit?

Hey guys I need some help with some problems I’ve been running into. This is my first turkey season and I’ve gone out almost every single day of the season so far. I can consistently find the birds and get around 40-50 yards from them in the thick parts of the woods. I give them some soft calls (push button call) and they gobble. Sometimes the gobbling gets really close, like 20-30 yards close, but I hunt in the woods so they are always just out of sight in the thick stuff that they don’t want to come out of. I’ll wait for over an hour motionless listening to the gobbles slowly get farther and farther away or go silent all together. This scenario has played out a few times now and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. Any advice? Use a pot call or mouth call like a real man? Is this just how public land birds are?
