I suddenly have more ripe tomatoes than I know what to do with- what are your favorite recipes? 🍅

After years of struggling to get much of a tomato harvest, I suddenly have the opposite problem and have a lot of ripe tomatoes at once!

They’re so much more flavorful than store-bought tomatoes that I’d love to make the most of them. I’ve already made so many caprese salads at this point, so I’m looking for other ideas.

What are your favorite easy recipes that use a lot of fresh tomatoes? I’m interested in anything from quick lunches and dinners to sauces, soups, snacks, or ways to preserve them.

What would you make first?

What do you make when all your tomatoes ripen at once?

After years of struggling to get much of a tomato harvest, I suddenly have the opposite problem and have a lot of ripe tomatoes at once! They’re so much better than store-bought tomatoes that I want to really enjoy them, but I’d love some variety.

What’s your favorite way to eat or use homegrown tomatoes when you have a bunch ready at the same time? Fresh, cooked, preserved, anything goes!

Impulsively bought this giant Costco fertilizer. Keep or return?

I somehow left Costco with an 8 lb container of Miracle-Gro Shake ‘n Feed All Purpose Plant Food and now I’m wondering if I made a mistake.

So far, I’ve been growing tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, herbs, zinnias, cosmos, and a bunch of houseplants (mostly tropical), all in pots/containers.

Is this stuff actually any good? What plants does it work well for, and are there any plants you wouldn’t use it on? How does it perform in containers compared to liquid fertilizers, other slow-release, or organic options?

I’m especially curious whether it’s a good choice for vegetables and flowering plants, or if there are better fertilizers I should be using instead.

Would you keep it or return it? Any tips, warnings, success stories, or regrets from people who’ve used it?

Thanks from someone who apparently shouldn’t be allowed to shop unsupervised in the garden section. 😅

Boyfriend's constant throat-clearing from allergies is seriously affecting me—am I being unreasonable?

I need some outside perspective because I feel like I'm losing my mind over something that seems minor, but it's starting to affect my relationship.

My boyfriend gets what he says is post-nasal drip/phlegm during allergy season. He says it feels stuck in his throat and is hard to clear. The way he deals with it is by constantly making loud throat-clearing/phlegm-pulling noises throughout the day.

I know this sounds awful, but hearing it triggers a really strong reaction in me. My entire body tenses up, I feel nauseated, and lately I find myself feeling less attracted to him because I'm so focused on the sound. I've tried ignoring it for months, telling myself it's temporary and not his fault, but it's getting harder and harder.

I suggested he see a doctor because this seems to happen every allergy season and doesn't seem well-controlled. He refuses, saying it's just allergies, he already takes Allegra every day, and a doctor will just tell him there's nothing they can do. I've also suggested trying other things like decongestants, but nothing seems to help.

I feel guilty because if this truly is something he can't control, I don't want to be the insensitive partner who's angry at someone for having a medical issue. At the same time, I struggle to believe that constantly making these noises is the only possible way to manage it, and I'm reaching a breaking point.

Has anyone dealt with chronic post-nasal drip or allergies like this? Are there treatments that actually help when antihistamines don't? And for anyone who's been on either side of a situation like this, how do you handle it when a partner's habit or symptom triggers such a strong reaction that it's affecting your relationship?

I want to be compassionate, but I also want to protect my own sanity.

Can I use Promethease for pharmacogenetics (PGx) instead of a test like GeneSight?

Hey everyone,

My psych nurse recently recommended that I look into pharmacogenetic (PGx) testing because I have a brutal history with medication side effects (and as a natural redhead, I apparently have some gene variations that make me process certain drugs weirdly anyway).

My nurse mentioned commercial panels like GeneSight or Genomind, and while my insurance covers a chunk of it, I’m trying to see if I can save some money or do the data deep-dive myself.

I already have raw DNA data from 23andMe. Can I just upload that raw data to Promethease to get accurate pharmacogenetic info regarding psychiatric medications (like how I metabolize antidepressants/anti-anxiety meds)?

Specifically wondering:

  1. Does Promethease actually flag the specific liver enzyme variants (like CYP2D6, CYP2C19, etc.) that dictate psychiatric drug metabolism?
  2. Is the formatting readable enough to figure out dosing/side-effect risks, or is it a massive headache to cross-reference compared to a dedicated clinical report?
  3. If you’ve used Promethease for this exact reason, was it actually helpful or did you end up just needing a clinical test anyway?

Appreciate any insight! Thanks in advance!
