Big Tina’s first weekend at camp -

MX5 did great! I replaced the tires with tusk recon in the front, and tusk ground wire in the rear, but I wish they were wider. All the usual taller rider mods. Too much fun! I forgot to bring the break in oil change bottle with me. I’m at 200 miles and have 2 more days at camp 😑

My new mx5 with tall guy upgrades

My first e-moto! I’ve got a few legal e-bikes and a couple not so legal AWD bikes that I use for camp and putting around forest service roads/old atv trails.

As I’m 6’3 210lbs, I added warp 9 direct mount stem with riser, warp 9 3” height bars, warp 9 stem lock of course. Wider pegs and a purple chain guard. Tusk hybrid tire on the front, and yet to put the tusk groundwire on the rear. Sounds like a next weekend problem. Next up is to find a peg lowering mount and a wider/taller seat (that seat Is just horrible). Next season I’ll probably splurge on a 16/19 wheel set.

I’ve only been (respectfully) hooning around my neighborhood and some local trails. Next week I’m going to camp where I can really let it rip. It has no difficulty zipping my giant ass around. It might look small, but it’s got it where it counts!

Another successful trip!

New panel and AC held up just fine! Deployed the Starlink mini for the first time. I know having internet at camp is frowned upon, but it was really nice. Though it only finds a satellite about 75% of the time with all these trees around. That thing uses a ton of power when run from my inverter, so I’ll get a buck converter to run it straight from the 12v. I’ll likely get another roof panel to help keep everything topped up. With being proactive about moving around my portable 200w panel I was able to get back about 15% of my battery every day, but I don’t think it’s enough for trips longer than 4 days, especially if I use the AC. Likely have to invest in a small generator if we actually need to blast the AC.

AC powered by the sun!

Well it’s not pretty yet, but I got the ladder rack and solar panel on (extra through-bolts to come), got the 12v AC roughed in enough for weather tightness. Had a good 3 hour downpour today and no leaks! I rerouted the power cable to drop down inside the air box so I didn’t have to drill a separate hole for the cords. I’ve still gotta figure out how I’m going to hide the cable to the actual 12v system in the tongue box, but I’ll get it good enough to go camping this weekend. It’s supposed to be under 70f the whole time, so likely won’t need it. Full size mattress fits perfectly for times when my partner needs to sleep in there with me.

On the highest cooling setting, the AC pulls about 550w. With no sun, my battery monitor says it’ll run for 7 hours. (314ah lifepo4) With the new 200w roof panel and the 200w portable blanket in perfect sun, it says it’ll run for 2.5 days. Set at medium (74 degrees), there’s no battery drain at all when the sun is out. So far I’m very impressed with this unit. Though I’m probably going to get another panel for the roof 😆

Tanya the trailer took her first camping trip this weekend! Obviously there’s still a lot left to finish, but she’s usable now! I’m glad I decided on the modular build out rather than the original plan I was going for. It’s very cozy inside 🙂

314ah lifepo4 got down to 80% after two days, running lights, charging phones and tablets, Inverter for the TV and 2 dc fridges. 200w foldable solar panel got me back about 5% each day. Probably could have done better if I monitored it more, but it’s still free power!

I really need some blinds or curtains, and I’m definitely taking the cam bar off of the man door. Debating on one of those new 12v ac units for the roof, but might be a bit overkill.

Overall a very successful first trip!

It’s been a while since I’ve made any progress! Camping season is finally here and I decided to redo my cabinetry and electrical so that I can fit an ATV in my lil trailer sometimes. Got mostly off the electrical in the tongue box with a 4kwh lifepo4. Also have a 200w folding panel that actually runs my entire trailer (tv, lights, fridge) when It’s overcast, while still charging the battery.

I’ve got a short camping trip this weekend, so I’m sure I’ll learn what’s I might need to change before I fully finish it up.
