If your income is port heavy, does it make sense to stop trading with your neighbours?
You wont get the gold from their trade ships arriving, but more of your trade ships will be going longer distances. I don't know how those balance out.
Not trading with someone is also generally viewed as hostile so I don't know if they would recognise that I'm making both of us more money and accidentally create an enemy.
