Tamale Vendor Court/President Streets

What happened to the tamale vendor that used to set up around the corner of the former vape shop at Court and President (since at least 2024)? I know construction plywood was put up around the building a few months ago and the vendor squeezed in between the fence and the plywood wall. Looks like whatever business is going in that location extended the wall to the iron gate recently.

Alternate Side Parking Etiquette

Was double parked (on the outside) on Strong Place and came back 20 minutes before it was time to move back and was approached by a homeowner and asked if I park here regularly. To which I answered “often, but not regularly”.

“Well, when you park here, we want people to leave a note with your number so if anyone wants to move their car, you know, they can contact you. For next time.” He says.

I responded OK and was about to be on my way and happened to look at the dashboard of a BMW SUV double parked behind me to see if they had left a note/number. Nothing. When I hear a voice call out from another stoop. “That’s mine, I can move it if you want, Im right here”. To which I responded “Nope, just checking if there was a note because the guy across the street says that’s what people who park on Strong Place do”. I took off after a minute - well before the rest of the street started the dance of moving back to the cleaned side.

Do y’all leave notes? Have you ever been contacted? How long did it take you to respond and move your car? For the record I have access to a car for a few days a month and usually double park on Cheever and those who park on the inside on Cheever know they’re stuck there until ASP is over. (Also nowadays, unknown phone calls and texts all get blocked/ sent to spam automatically by new iOS. )

Hardest Working Man in Carroll Gardens

Has to be the tall worker (looks middle eastern and i have heard him speak Arabic and French) at the Key Food on Henry. He waters the plants, feeds the pigeons, makes deliveries, takes his coffee and cigarette break with panache, says hello to the regulars and I don’t think has a missed a day of work.
