HSA Contributions, Cobra & Medicare
I’m currently employed and contributing annually to my HSA account. I plan to retire sometime next year. At the latest, I will retire when I turn 65 in October of next year (2027). I’m considering retiring a few months earlier (May or June 2027) and using Cobra to bridge the healthcare gap until October when I can go on Medicare. Can I still contribute the maximum annual amount to my HSA account in 2027? Or am I subject to some prorata rule? If the latter, does continuing my current HDHP plan through Cobra affect my HSA contribution eligibility?
