3 Player games

Hi all,

We got in a great three person Age of Magic game yesterday, but I'd like some opinions on what we can do better.

The problem we've found with 3 player games, when it's a free for all, is that one person always gets crushed between the other 2. So... we played 2 vs 1, with one player having 8 points and the other two having 4 points. At it's core, it worked really well, but the fact that 2 player side had 2 warlords gave them an edge.

Any thoughts on how to better balance it? Would 4+4 vs 9 points make more sense to compensate for the second warlord? Throw an extra saga die at the solo player? Very curious to hear your thoughts.

Update:

After discussions, we're going to try the following:

  1. The two co-op players will be able to put dice on each other's boards.

  2. The solo player will get a second basic Warlord (on foot or on Animal).

Between those two changes, it should all be more balanced as both sides will have access to the same basic levels of We Obey, Determination, Saga dice and board use. Not perfect... but what is?

Cavalry size in Age of Magic vs Core Rules

Hi all,

Just trying to confirm something.

In the core rules, Warrior and Hearthguard models that are mounted, are based on a base that must fit within a 50mm square. Since I base fully on round bases, that meant I put my models on 50mm round bases.

I just noticed that, in the Age of Magic rules, Hearthguard and warriors that are mounted must fit within a 50x40mm square, meaning that I'd need to do a 40mm base.

Considering I have three finished armies, and I print my cavalry as a single piece with the base, I can't rebase the models without reprinting and repainting them completely, so I'm a little concerned.

So... considering I only play Age of Magic... which base size rules take precedence, the core rules or the Age of Magic ones?

Help with Super Powers - Odd case

Hi all,

I'll be starting a Super Powers campaign shortly and I need help taking one of my player's requests and making it work in game.

The concept:

The character has a ritual (think of a Vulcan Mind Meld) that they can do. The ritual can only be done consensually, as both individuals have their parts to play, but the non player doesn't necessarily have to understand the purpose of the ritual.

Once performed, the player knows facts that the other person knows, can take on some of their skills, and if they have powers, they can take one of their powers on as well.

The basics:

This isn't the easiest thing to figure out for me. Thus far, I have the following idea.

The player will put points in Copycat, Mind Reading and Super Skill, all of which are Contingent on Mind Reading. The idea being that the ritual occurs, it takes at least 5 to 10 minutes, can't be done in combat and then they get the mind reading roll. If the mind reading succeeds, the copycat and the Super Skill take effect.

The questions:

  1. If requires touch is a 2 point limitation, and this is keyed off a ritual, it has to be a greater limitation. What's fair -3? -4? I'm thinking 3 but is that fair? Should I make it cheaper for them?

  2. How can Super Skill create a bank of skills that the player can use? My proposal was to put 2 points in Super Skill, take selective 5 times for 5 more points, and then reduce the cost by the ritual limitation, so say 3 for now. As I see it, for 4 points, they'd have a bank of 6 different skills they can use (one at a time), that they can only have gained it the person they used a ritual on previously knew them. If they use a ritual on someone new, which results in a 7th skills, they'd have to give up on a previously known one.

My problem with this, is that normally Super Skill gives *defined) skills. So normally, with what I proposed above, they'd only ever get the 6 pools, and that's it, no changing. Is giving them this flexibility reasonable?

Help!!

My hope is that one of you may be able to come up with a better idea. *Is* there a better way of making this concept work?

Thanks for any help you can offer!
