Phone Stolen by Driver... now in Morocco?
I took an Uber Black in Newport Beach, CA around 3:30am mid-march and accidentally left my iPhone in the car. I realized immediately 5 seconds after the car pulled away and immediately called our gate guard to stop him before he left the neighborhood.
The gate guard stopped him and asked about the phone / if they could check the car, and the driver basically said, “It’s not here, you can’t look in here,” and drove off.
Then my phone location turned off right at the gate, which felt pretty sketchy timing-wise.
I know it was my fault for leaving it in the car, but I noticed immediately and I really did everything I could to stop him before leaving the neighborhood. Uber was zero help as well- they wouldn't provide the driver’s last name or license plate, so I couldn’t even file a complete police report.
Anyways now 6 weeks later, the location randomly turned back on and it’s at a phone shop in Morocco called Le Maitre Phone.... This phone shop has multiple reviews of people saying their phones were stolen all around the world & ended up there.
It’s honestly concerning to think drivers like this are also being trusted with Uber package/courier deliveries. I know most drivers are honest, but this whole situation has been really disappointing — especially for Uber Black.
I wish I could report the driver so this doesn't happen again, but Uber has made it so difficult to report him and aren't really listening.
