Now Playing - Eddie Palmieri "Doin' It in the Park"

Now Playing - Eddie Palmieri "Doin' It in the Park"

Late Eddie Palmieri and just over a year since his passing.

Soundtrack to a documentary by the same name. Less orchestrated than his usual setup and playing with a crack set of younger musicians but in his unmistakeable. style and flow.

Anthony Carrillo rips on bongos which are upfront and centre in the mix.

Now Playing - Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis 'Afro Jaws'

Killer Latin Jazz from 1961.

The title track alone is worth the price of admission...top shelf music and a desert island disc.

Eddie cooking cooking cooking with Ray Barretto and his rhythm section - looks like Willie Bobo from the back cover, but don't recognise the third member - any ideas?

Now Playing - Tito Puente 'Mambo Diablo'

Another solid LP from TP from the mid 80s. He had a great run on the CJP label.

Now Playing - Ray Barretto 'La Cuna'

Ray Barretto teams up with some fine mainstream Jazz players as well as some Latin royalty.

Great LP, but Side B is where it's at. Joe Farrell takes no prisoners on The Castle. Huge sound on this one and needs to be cranked up!.

The second track, Stevie Wonder's Pastime Paradise, comes close to the original. Charlie Palmieri's piano solo is sublime, with some killer old-school guajeos.

Now Playing - Tito Rodriguez 'Live At Birdland'

Tito Rodriguez's most jazzy album (certainly from those that I've come across). 6 long tracks so everyone gets a stretch. Nice full sound, a little like Machito's but without the mambo brass riffs. Released 1963.

Now Playing - Terry Gibbs 'The Latin Connection'

Terry Gibbs goes into full Latin mode with what looks like Tito Puente's full rhythm section at the time. Tito appears on a couple of tracks as does Frank Morgan, giving those tunes a nice bop tinge.

Great LP, swings start to finish.

Now Playing - Gato Barbieri 'Chapter 3 Viva Emiliano Zapata'

Arguably Gato's finest entry in his series of "Chapters" albums, and certainly one of the toughest, hardest-hitting Latin jazz records of its era.

All killer, no filler!

Backed by a stellar lineup of musicians and orchestrated by the legendary Chico O'Farrill, this is Gato's most Cuban/Latin outing.

The final touch of magic comes from the ever-wonderful Charlie Palmieri.

Just the first 30 seconds of the title track will put a smile on your face and get the adrenaline pumping.

A no-questions-asked desert island disc.

Mazda 6 2009 Sports Luxury battery terminal

Hi folks, looking for some guidance...

I have a 2009 Mazda 6 sports luxury. The battery has developed a leak and corroded the positive terminal and fuse link box and is likely to snap if removed to change the battery.

Given the age of the car it's proving difficult to find a new or used connector.

Not sure what to do? Can I use one from a more recent model or perhaps one from a Mazda 3?

The current fuse is rated at 80A.

Any help appreciated.

Now Playing - Cal Tjader 'Mas Ritmo Caliente'

Playing with a rhythm section to die for - Mongo Santamaria (congas), Willie Bobo (timbales), Armando Peraza (bongos), Bobby Rodriguez/Al McKibbon on bass, the always wonderful playing of Jose 'Chombo' Silva on tenor and Vince Guaraldi (!) on piano. This is a desert island disc.

The sound is quite unlike Cal's other plentiful recordings of the time - it's much fuller and more traditional Afro Cuban, and somehow also more hard bop.

Some fast stomping numbers where Chombo and the rhythm section get to stretch out. The other numbers are equally enjoyable.

"Big Noise From Winnetka alone is worth the price of admission.

This is an original or very early pressing on Fantasy. It's like a 180g pressing even before there was such a thing, pressed on translucent deep red vinyl.

Now Playing - Charlie Palmieri 'Latin Bugalu'

Not just bugalu, but a great mix of late '60s Latin styles, including some long, fiery Latin jazz tracks.

In keeping with the Alegre All Stars recording where Charlie Palmieri served as musical director, leader, and pianist he gives the brass plenty of room to solo.

Louie Ramirez plays timbales, so you know it’s going to be good.

This is a nice clean UK pressing, issued at the same time as the first US release.

Now Playing - The Alegre All-Stars

Volume 1 of The Alegre All Stars (self-titled).

As a response to the Cuban Jam Sessions on Panart, Al Santiago came up with the idea of recording jam sessions featuring the best house musicians from his Alegre label, New York City style.

The result was the first of five high-octane, true jazzy latin jam sessions, capturing not only the phenomenal music but also the clear camaraderie between the musicians.

This copy is a relatively recent Japanese reissue from the "Suite Espagnole" series.

Classic Arsenio from 1957 (this one is a 70s Antilla reissue).

Can't add any more than has already been said.

Find a copy and enjoy.
