Ground clearance and UK speed bumps – Anyone scraped the front lip yet?

One year in, and this is still my biggest daily anxiety with the Seal: the front overhang and ground clearance.

Compared to my previous car, the Seal sits quite low. Every time I tackle those aggressive, square speed bumps in London boroughs or encounter uneven country lanes in the countryside, I hold my breath. I’ve had a couple of nasty "crunch" sounds from the plastic air deflector underneath when moving at what felt like a snail's pace.

Are you guys diagonal-driving over speed humps, or has the suspension softened up enough over the year to make it less of an issue? Just want to check if I need to be even more paranoid than I already am!

1 year into EV ownership with my BYD Seal – finally getting used to it

Hi everyone,

I’ve had my BYD Seal for almost a year now, so thought I’d share some honest thoughts as someone who had never owned an EV before this car.

The biggest adjustment honestly wasn’t the driving — it was the charging.

At the start I had proper range anxiety and was constantly checking battery %. With petrol cars you just fill up anywhere in 5 minutes and don’t think about it. With the Seal, I had to completely change my habits.

After a few months though, it started to make more sense. Most of my charging now happens at home overnight, and waking up with a “full tank” is actually really convenient.

Public charging in the UK still feels a bit messy though. Different chargers, different prices, different apps everywhere. I didn’t expect EV ownership to involve this many accounts on my phone

Right now I mainly use:

  • Electroverse
  • Octopus Electroverse
  • InstaVolt
  • BP Pulse

One thing I’ve definitely learned is that charger speed in real life is rarely what’s advertised. The Seal can charge very quickly sometimes, but I’ve also had sessions where speeds dropped way earlier than expected.

Winter was also a surprise. Lower range and slower charging were definitely noticeable during colder weeks.

That said, after a year, I genuinely don’t think I’d go back to petrol. The quiet driving, home charging, and lower running costs have been great overall.

Still feels like the UK charging infrastructure and apps need simplifying though.

Would be interested to hear if other UK Seal owners had a similar experience.

Hi everyone,

I’ve had my BYD Seal for about a year now. I recently picked up a Toptekk TTB030 diagnostic tool and decided to run a scan to see how the battery is actually doing. It’s the first time I’ve been able to see the specific health data beyond the standard car menu.

According to the report, my State of Health (SoH) is 99.94%, which I’m pretty happy with. However, a couple of things stood out to me:

  • Battery Usage Habits: The app flagged this as "Poor". Does anyone know what criteria this tool uses to judge usage habits? I usually charge it when it hits around 20-30%, but maybe my driving style is a factor.
  • Average Consumption: 22.83 kWh / 100 km.
  • Cycles: 38 charging cycles with 16 full cycles.

Has anyone else here used a similar tool to check their SoH after a year? Curious to know if 99.94% is about average for the Blade battery or if the "Poor" usage rating is something I should actually worry about.

Also, for other Seal owners, what’s your typical energy consumption looking like?
